Also, another advantage of taking the deal means more record sales, more popularity, more recognition.

It's the same with guitars mate.  Anyone ever seen Angus Young play his signature SG, Malcom Young play his signature Gretsch or Slash play his signature Les Paul?

Zakk has used a customised JCM800 in the past and I guess the signature model is his reward for the money Marshall has made from that tie up.  Same with the guitars - how many SGs have Gibson sold off the back of Angus before the signature model?

not to correct you but slash does use his custom les paul & marshalls. the custom guitar was made for his stage use with a peiso saddle pickup to play acoustic stuff on his electric. and his amps were copies of his old silver jubilees so he didn't have to worry about breaking em when touring! (bit of a slash fan/geek!!) other than that - wholeheartedly agree!

But almost all of Slash's Les Pauls aren't made by Gibson, they're made by a chap called MAX from California, so while he will use his signature instruments, his versions of them aren't built by the same people that build what you or I could buy.

well hows about that then! you learn something new every day!     :D

My guess would be because gibson don't make any guitars worth remotely what they cost. And that Slash is clearly in a position to buy the best guitars in the world, so is unlikely to play Gibsons, but I imagine he's more than happy to take royalties and free shite.

I was under the impression that the LP/LPs Slash used on Appetite For Destruction (to replace his Jackson guitars) and for recording, were made by Max, but his touring guitars are just Gibsons with replacement pickups?

I know he's always been a little scared of gigging his favourite recording guitars, hence he just used regular Gibsons live? I could be wrong though
