Parallel with push pull
« on: November 25, 2006, 07:24:06 AM »
So, I just got my Rebel Yell for the bridge and cts push pull pot, and I'm about to put it in.  I don't know how to wire it so that it's in series when down, and parallel when up.

Any help?

thanks,

Jan

I hate using a Seymour Duncan diagram, but they are very clear and easy to follow:

Very important note - BKP's colour coding is different from Duncan's - instead of White, Red, Black, Green on the diagram, substitute Green, White, Red, Black in that order!

Good luck!

Great, thanks.  Where do you best solder ground to on a pp pot?

That's a bloody good question, it's so long since I used a push-pull I can hardly remember  :? .  You certainly don't want a lot of solder on the top of the pot because it could get into the switch mechanism.  And I'd be reluctant to solder onto the sides of the switch part, because I think it's fairly fragile inside.

The third tag on the pot is going to be grounded anyway, so rather than doing the usual thing of bending it up and soldering it to the pot chassis, I think I'd run a wire from that tag to the side of the pot (before putting it in the guitar).  You could use the ground wire from the output jack - strip the insulation off the last inch of the wire and run it through the third tag then solder the end to the side of the pot.

The ground wire from the switch and the bare wire from the pickup can then be soldered to the third tag.
