GET A VH100    AMAZING!

The TT range has less bite than the VH ang GH range. Don't bother with a marshall, i have just upgraded a DSL 50 to a VH100, the difference sounds like £1000s, you wouldnt believe it.

hey thanks everyone for their input, so i'm getting the general impression that marshall :(   laney... Are you lot endorsed by laney or summat lol.

Joe, how does the VH100R sound at 50-100 capacity venue kinda volume?
It's the only thing thats holding me back from that amp. I like all other aspects of it.

No other suggetions then? Like i said it doesnt have to be just those two makes as long as its in the same price range.

Thanks :)

Well you could always get a hotplate to tame the volume a bit whilst still retaining a good tone. I was just playing at bedroom level with my GH50L and it still sounded fine.

The only new Laney I've tried recently was a GH100 and it was an awesome head, especially at £450 new.  The last Marshall I tried that I liked was a JCM900 SL-X (never got on with those DSL/TSL, JCM2000 etc ranges that came out post-JCM900).

If the Laney GH series had a dedicated clean channel I'd be looking at getting one myself.  I probably only use a clean tone 10% of the time, but if I buy an amp I want to have that option.

I own the VH100R too. Even at low volumes the amp sound VERY good. Obviously turned up it sounds better, but at bedroom levels and band rehearsals it sounds THE shite.

Hey that's good to know. I'm not sure whether to wait for one to crop up on ebay or just get it new although that'd make it over my budget if I buy a decent cab.

I was just thinking about rack gear, like JMP-1 or V-twin with EL34 50/50 or similar. They're very expensive new but they often turn up on ebay for about 250 quid. Theyre expandable according to needs as well.

Any thoughts?

yeah. laney are good, no doubt, but are mainly good on a "bang for buck" basis. If you happen to have unlimited funds, I doubt you'd go laney. In my opinion.

well, mine's been a long time comin.

they are the best bang for the buck IMO. great tone,  one of the most organic overdriven sounds ever.

if i had unlimited funds, i'd buy two matamp LXs' to run em in stereo
