Although, he did used to be in a band with Axl Rose - you'd have thought he'd be used to all that by now.

I'd almost forgotten, but I've got Jennifer Batten's 1992 album Above Below And Beyond.  Listening to it now, it's bloody good - and it's got some proper tunes and huge funky grooves, unlike most shred albums.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Really think she's a great player - if she's good enough for Jeff Beck.....although I did read a quote from Jennifer when Jeff asked her to play that she "***t her pants"....

Here's a clip of the two talented JBs during the 1999 tour

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHaRAfxLd7g

How the ***k does he get all those sounds from a Strat?????

EDIT: Just had to add this one as well ... not my sort of music but must rank as one of the most beautiful melodic Strat pieces of all time.

EDIT 2: This 1981 clip has Clapton backing him instead of Jennifer - interesting because he was using a pick and the Tele which has the 'original' JB pickups that Seymour Duncan hand wound for him.

Went to see Jeff Beck at the Albert Hall a couple of years back - no doubt that he is an amazing guitar player but the music didn't make for 'easy' listening - there were times when you could not help but think "what the hell is this all about??"

Yes - I agree.  Although I have been a lifelong fan I have always found that I never liked his "new" material - then a few years later I would listen to it again and completely change my opinion. Although he was a big part of the 60/70's British blues/rock guitarist scene, unlike Clapton & Page, he deliberately changed/developed his style, probably at the expense of widespread commercial success. Apparently one of the main reasons he changed from Les Pauls to Strats was that he thought too many other guitarists were beginning to sound like him. As you can see in some of the clips he seems to be continously using the volume, tone and whammy bar to adjust the sound as he plays.
