you wouldn't use the meat knife on crusty bread but, equally, the serrated knife and straight edge knife aren't going to go through raw meat as quickly

Sorry, not from Boston. However, it would be WELL WORTH the quick train ride down to NYC to check out some INSANE guitar stores!!

Here's a teaser:

OK tried to post once, couldn't see the INVISIBLE Visual confirmation (nice website boneheads...) here goes again....

Bay State is cool crazy joint, stacked to the ceiling with gear. Haven't been in in years, but well worth a stop.

BGW can be OK but actually is in BROCKTON - a long drive down South

Daddy's used to be cool - about 10 years ago.  Not much going on there anymore...

Guitar Center is a big mainstream chain - Musician's Friend Retail. All the big factory name stuff (i.e. boring AFAIAC)

The more interesting spots in Boston have little or no web presence:

- Cambridge Music in Porter Square in Cambridge - interesting used and a few fringe boutique mfrs
- Rock City Guitars in Davis Square (walking distance from Porter) - cool old amps usually a lot of old Fenders
- might as well stop at Rockin Bobs Guitar in Davis if you're in the neighborhood - hit or miss and only a few thngs usually but sometimes cool stuff will crop up.
- along the same lines "Guitar Stop" on Mass Ave between Harvard & Porter Sq. could be on a 'tour'... nothing hugely noteworthy but worth swinging in just in case...

If you really are willing (or want ) to drive, head up to Bill's Music on Lynn St. in Peabody. He'll have a bunch of old Blackfaces and Silverfaces and Sears Silvertones and other weird guitars and amps and working musicians trippin' through.  Off on a weird quiet side street though, and you probably need a GPS to find it...

If you do go up there continue on to Front St. Cafe in Salem for a coffee in the daytime or Dodge Street Bar & Grill for music in the night.  Not CBGB's or anything but what do you expect for the North Shore...?
