That kicks the sh*t out of my Koch Multitone.

I'm pretty keen to try one of these out, I just can't find anywhere that stocks them!
Anybody know of a Laney dealer in the Coventry/Birmingham area that actually has a GH50L in the shop?

I've still not been able to get a sound like this video from my GH50L yet. It can do classic metal no problem, but I can never get it sounding as heavy as this for some reason. Guess its my speakers, hes using V30s.

True but I find amp affects overall tone much more than pickups. Anyway I think Tim uses Mules in Ozzmosis!

I'll try getting a heavier tone when I get my Charvel though, apparently the stock bridge humbucker is like a more powerful old JB so it should sound pretty good.

Was playing around with my Keeley Rat into the GH50L today, I think I prefer to get the extra gain from a pedal rather than using the amps in built extra gain stage. I'm running the amp with preamp gain on 10 and the Rat infront on phat rat mode, level on full, filter all the way up and distortion just above 9 o clock. It seems much tighter, clearer, less fizzy, more defined and seems to have more harmonics. More of a "3D" sound and seems more dynamic.

I may still go with a tubescreamer though as the Rat doesnt have the mids or general beef of a tubescreamer, its more of a fuzz than an overdrive really. I think with a good overdrive I'll be able to get much better hard rock and metal tones. New guitar wont be shipped till wednesday or thursday next week :(

i hate it when you have to wait for a guitar. i had to wait a month until christmas to have my razorback, my parents didn't even let me look at it! and they only paid 100 towards it grrrr.... anyway

that sounds more like "the sound" that i'm after... more 3D!

lovely...... hey does it sound like that video? different?? better?

thanks for the info!

I personally prefer my tone to that but I generally prefer a brighter, less bassy tone which is what I have my amp dialed in to get.

Anyway if I dont get a hotplate I'm watching on ebay I'll get a mic so maybe I can do a few clips of the Laney instead of my boring v-amp 2 for a change  :D

As for guitars, yeah I hate waiting too but the guy would only accept a personal cheque, probably would allready have it if he accepted paypal :(

everyone needs to have paypal.

ooo clips! coooool.

i prefer a more bassy, slightly less trebly tone, because to me, it sounds very heavy and thick. im not really a fan of super bright tone. dark all the way (i use all-mahogany guitars, and i will be getting a warpig to darken it more than my dimebucker, which im tired of after 3 weeks of using it!)

can you dial in a dark tone on the GH50L with the settings above? (more bass, less treble, average mids (NEVER SCOOP))

hmm from my experience if you like dark tone then a GH50L isnt really for you  :? Its a really bright british sound, at least through my cab. Even with treble and presence low it never really sounds dark to me. I'll try messing around with the settings a bit but it sounds to me like a Mesa or something darker would be better for you?

do you really think that i have the money for a mesa???? and if i did, i still wouldn't spend it all on an amp.

can cabs darken your sound? or speakers?

Yeah they can darken the sound if you get the right ones, apparently eminence swamp thangs are dark speakers. I forgot, my amp has EL34 valves which I think would be brighter than 6L6, which it can also run. I havent tried that though as I cant be arsed with rebiasing it all.

edit - EQ in the fx loop with much tweakage got some pleasing results earlier. Played the main riff of Blackwater Park just to test it and it sounded pretty good to me, probably "better" with a more metal pickup I guess.

I dunno about the nails bit but my hair is in the process of becoming good, its stuck in that annoying halfway stage where it looks shite and really thick.

Anyway, I'll have my charvel by the end of the week hopefully, so I'll get some heavier sounds from my setup maybe.
