Yardbird set...bridge seems a bit weak
« on: January 05, 2007, 09:44:29 PM »
I've had several months to get used to this set now and I love them, but can't help feeling that the bridge is a lot thinner sounding than the neck, which is very sweat and full. I find that I only tend to use the neck position and the lovely 4th position of neck and bridge in series, but never the bridge on its own. Seems a shame - I wish it had more bottom. Unless its a setup thing, anyone else find this? Maybe I should have combined the Yardbird neck with a different bridge or perhaps I need to adust something? My ears probably. Anyone?

Tim - is this (am I) normal?

Thanks,
Andy.

Is the bridge pickup too low? Have you tried raising it?

I've just readjusted both neck and bridge and it seems a lot better balanced, although I'd still like the bridge pup to have more balls. Probably needs a brown sugar in there maybe?

I really need to find a better luthier. It was set up recently and I didn't even think to check pickup height before posting. Duh! He did a pretty average job all round it seems as this isn't the only thing I've noticed. Serves me right for using Denmark Street in London - he always has a room full of guitars to tech and probably spends 10 minutes max on each.

Thanks mate for pointing me in the correct and obvious direction - feel like a bit of an idiot!

Andy.

You're welcome!

Conversely, you could lower the height of the neck pickup and crank your amp a bit more, thus giving the bridge pickup even more output relative to the neck.
