Got my new Laney yesterday... I'm still trying to figure it out, but i got some nice clean and OD sounds out of it in the half hour i got to play with it. Does anyone fancy giving me a head start with some good, modern distortion settings?

Right, try this and see what you think - it's top of my head stuff in relation to what I use on my JCM900... but:

(Working on the old o'clock method)

Bass: 11 o'clock
Middle: 5 o'clock
Treble: 1 o'clock
Presence:3 o'clock
Gain:12 o'clock

Go from there and see how it sounds, obviously it depends heavily on the sort of guitar/pickups you're using but for me, this works a treat. My main guitar is a Fernandes Ravelle with a Seymour Duncan JB in the middle - a pickup with his the EQ slid up in favour of the high end while I prefer the mids myself. GUITAR IS ALL ABOUT THE MIDS!! So, lower the treble a bit, drop the bass and crank those mids!

Give it a whirl and see what you think. It might rock, it might suck.

those settings sound good, and i agree that mids are needed to have a good sound...

BUT 5 oclock is overdoing it in my opinion. 12 oclock should be enough, maybe 13. it sounds more modern with less, but just whatever you do DONT SCOOP THE HELL OUT OF THEM or your sound will be weak and thin.

Yeh I never scoop my mids... i think it's a terrible sound, no balls to it. Thanks for the settings, I'll try them. But I've come to the conclusion that it aint gonna lose the "fizz" it has til i actually get it up past, well, 1! That's what iv been reading anyway.
There's someone on here with a VH100R... Can't recall their username...

I'm guessing the VH100R is similar to the GH50L.. you have to get the master above 2 before it thickens out and loses that fizz (like most valve amps really). You need to get the speakers working as well otherwise it sounds cr@p no matter how much you have the power amp working (IE hotplate on lowest setting with master right up). I'd recommend a hotplate though so long as you dont overdo it, it works really well.

the GH50L users can help you as the basic settings are the same, and also take toms advice about the hotplate, everyone uses them.

I paid £589 for mine at Wembley Guitar Centre. I had to carry the thing all the way home on the bus and train!

well, you cant get 0 oclock so i would say they out of 10.
