I'm not at all sure I want to change the pup in the Tyler at all to be honest. It's a perfectly fine pickup, and it'll depend on how far the HDs knock my socks off in my McCarty IRW first. However I had a tough time choosing between the the MM and HD for my McCarty.
As I say, thus far I only use the Midboost with the single coils and the humbucker on it's own. If I were to put an MM in the Tyler it would be to get that Zakk Squeal and tightness in my "super-strat" with the two single coils remaining in place for versatility. My current bucker does pretty much everything up to, but excluding the MM squeal, so if I were to choose another pup of lesser output, it'd be pretty much like for like. The Tyler pups are not mass produced Duncans, they're handmade, scatter wound, custom Duncans made only for Tyler. Are they on a part with BKPs? I don't know, but I doubt there'll be a dramatic difference in changing like for like pups. So a change would be specifically to get a dramatic difference... and the MM clip that Tim played still sounds awesome.
Besides, the Demeter midboost in the Tyler has a fairly dramatic gain and fattening affect on the VVs, I doubt it would bury them... though it's more likely I'd use them on different tracks.
