Dean Cadillac/Hardtail/Vendetta/anything else?!

You're missing the point, the only difference between the 3 pickup and the 2 pickup is the extra pickup, just the photo for the 3 is better lit. The 2 pickup 1980 DOES have gold knobs, they just don't show up very well in the photo.
As you've changed the thread title (AGAIN!!!!!) the Vendetta 4.0 is a great shred and metal guitar for a seriously small amount of money, just needs new pickups. The new Vendetta 4F looks sweet in trans black with a black Floyd and Dimarzios, but I've not seen a UK price for it yet.
The Hardtail Select is a staggeringly well made guitar for peanuts. It just oozes quality and plays really nicely. The neck is somewhat full and vintage, but if you're currently playing an explorer that shouldn't be a problem, the pickups are OK, you can get a good punky bark from the bridge and a nice bluesy honk from the neck, but it should really come alive with a set of Rebel Yells.
Anyway, Dean have announced that they will be unveiling 40, yes FORTY new models at Winter Namm this weekend, so check out the webcasts on their site.

Cool, i'll see what they have to offer. And no the 1980 does not have gold volume and tone knobs, can't remember the name for them but they are see thru gold kinda colour with the numbers 1-10 on them.

They're called speed knobs, and they're what are shown on the Black Golds on the Dean site. Only the ML at Machinehead has those solid gold knobs, which is kinda strange. Anyway, speed knobs cost, like, £6 a set, and are piss easy to fit

You guys are giving me GAS.

The neck is somewhat full and vintage

Does that apply to Deans generally, or just the HardTail Select?  I'm afraid I don't know much about them, and their site isn't the most informative.

I really like the look of the Black Gold V.

Hhm, and the Cadillac at Dolphin, curious. However, Dolphin have the Black Gold Cadillac up for £599!!! This means that £499 for the 1980 is a REALLY bad deal. If you bought the Black Gold from Singingchicken you'd save £100 of the price of the 1980 at Dolphin on a guitar that they've got listed at £100 more!!!! With the money you save you could buy some speed knobs and a BKP!

Of the Import Deans the Hardtails have palm filling necks, the others, (as far as I'm aware) have quite fast necks. For example, the EVO Special has a really surprising neck for a single cut (and really good upper fret access too), and the Vendettas are into Ibanez territory.
The USA Deans have the much vaunted Dean V profile, which gives good tone and is comfortable for rhythm work, while allowing you to get your hand around for fast runs and big stretches, a good compromise for players who want a vintage feel but need modern technique.
Joe, reading your revised original post, if you like a full neck you'll hate Ibanez.

I tried a wizard before and i really liked it, though at other times i also like a fat neck. Ibanez are good, i nearl bought one over my Explorer.

And the black gold looks cr@p in my opinion.

You'd still make a saving if you bought a 1980 from the states and shipped it over at that price though. Anyway, you're again missing the point, which was what I said originally, if you buy the 1980 from Dolphin, you're paying too much. It's £100 more than Singingchicken are charging for a Black Gold, which is a better guitar. It doesn't add up, and would be a bad decision.

How do you know that the black gold is better?!

It looks worse, and is probably made with the same wood in the same factory.

The general consensus is that the Black Golds are better made than the 1979s and 1980s. They are effectively the top of their lines for the MIK Deans, same as the 4.0 and Select ranges for the other guitars. Their general fit is better, their necks have a certain something and the pickups are better. The reason may simply be because they're made in smaller runs than the 79s (which they make thousands of) so the attention to detail is better (although the pickups must simply just be better). Also they're not the same woods, the black gold has a maple top, and also there's mahogany and there's mahogany, so the fact that they both say mahogany doesn't really mean anything. Think of it another way, the Cadillac Select is made in the same factory as the 1980, also have a bound body, also have a mahogany neck and body AND have a carved maple top, but are MUCH cheaper than the 1980, so there must be something else to it, as on paper the 1980 would be much cheaper to make all other things being equal.
Anyway, YOU may think that the Black Gold looks bad, but in fact most guitarists think that trans black is cooler than cool, and that gold hardware offsets black really well, and if you're looking at getting one chances are (like me) you already have a couple of solid black gutars anyway.

Anyway, for what it's worth my next electric purchase will almost certainly be a Vendetta 4.0  in Tiger Eye

Yeah Vendetta in Tiger Eye would be so awesome that's what i would get if i was getting one, which i still might...

By the way how do you think a Washburn WI66 would fair up against one of these Dean's?
