Hello there.

Once more I'm begging for help.

Recently, and over two sets of strings, I've noticed a strange "ringing" coming behind each note on my Eggle. It's not at a fixed pitch, either, it's a kind of strange "halo" of Vibrato following each note. It's most prominent on the plain strings between the fifth and twelth fret.

The odd thing is, it doesn't come through on the amp at all. it's just there acoustically, and it's starting to bug me more than a little.

Is it possible the pickups (BKP-90's) are a bit too close to the strings? they're both a good 4-5mm away, so I was kinda discounting that, but at this point I'd give anyhing a whirl. All mechanical components are locked down tight, from the tailpiece and bridge, to the tuner locks and truss cover. The frets look grand to my eyes as well.

Any ideas at all?

I had that a bit on my eggle that I bought recently. It went away. haven't really worried too much about it since. It seemed to happen when you picked hard, I just figured my guitar had old strings or something.

i had this problem on a guitar, and it was just the saddles rattling against eachother at certain frequencies, try moving them around a bit with ur fingers and try playing notes with your hand on the saddles, see if it goes away at all.

same here ... I had a rattle in an SG that turned out to be in the saddles. I ended up having to put blue tac in there to stop them vibrating.

mine doesn't have saddles... it's a one-piece bridge. Though it does have a movable part for the g and b strings to allow intonation for those two. Maybe it was that. It stopped anyway, lol.

headtheball, the noise you describe sounds a hell of a lot like the noise I had on one of my guitars after I moved the pickups too close to the strings - a kind of weird 'wolf note' with a strange vibrato/tremelo sound to it.

Try dropping the pickups a little way and see if it goes away. If not, I'm afraid I'm stumped.

Just a thought - does the "ringing" feel like it's coming from the neck itself?

I was getting some strange ringing/warbling noises from my Tele recently.  Then I happened to tap the back of the neck and heard a strange metallic rattle.  It turned out the truss rod nut was loose - the rod wasn't under tension at all and was vibrating in the neck when I played certain notes.

Dave Mc, your eggle must be a lot like mine (did we have this conversation before? is yours the blueburst Wave 1? out of curiosity, how many frets are on it?).

I dropped the bridge PU a mill or so, and it seems to have diminished a little, so hopefully that's it.

^ nah, I don't think we talked before, I've only mentioned this to a few people. I got a prototype vienna recently in the emporium's "closing down" sale, no case, few minor cosmetic imperfections, for £500. I was well pleased, obviously enough (list is like £2100!).

22 frets.

i'm the one with the blueburst wave!  i also got a "prototype" eggle from the emporium, a Berlin Evo22, basically it's like a prs mccarty, 'cept it cost me £600, and like that Vienna the list is about £2000.  is that the hollow Vienna?  i didn't play it but it's a lovely looking guitar.

and closing down sale you say?  i hadn't heard they were closing, that's a shame.

^ that's the one, the red one.

it's really nice... needs new pickups, but I'm kind of holding off on that till I'm sure what I want.

it's strange, the sale isn't being publicised at all. I've exchanged many a puzzled pm with rob/kilby about it (who brought the sale to my attention, which was very nice!), and we don't know what's going on.

When did you get your eggle? 'Cos from what i hear, they have one left (unless you took it!).

oh, and sorry for the takeover of the thread!

i'd say it's over a year since i got mine.  it's still got the Seymour Duncan pickups in it, a custom custom and a '59.  they sound okay, a very modern slick sound.  i have a pair of Crawlers here which i got off ebay and i can't decide if i should put them in it or another guitar.

i don't think we've hijacked, just gone off on a slight tangent

anyway, i'll have to head up to Belfast and check this out (checks bottom of drawer for spare pennies...)

Who cares, truss rods and low action are for sissis anyways

I used to have that problem on my cheap 7 string (sd invaders pups).
I think lowering the neck pickup finally soleved it (but it could have just dissapeared spontaneously.
