p-90's help

sorry change of heart, am thinkin either mule for bridge of my gordon smith or a p-90

am unsure on p-90's no to some may sound daft but,  who uses them bands artists and specific songs so I can go look them up for sound..thanks for help and patience

I have a Mule in a GS-1 and an MQ in an SG-1.  Tell me what tone you want, and I'll tell you which of my guitars would suit you best  ;)

well have emeralds in my bluesbird, nailbomb in ibanez, warpig and crawler in sg and apaches in parker, so am trying to get away from your high output

I think(although unsure) so more vintage sound for bridge and neck.gordon smith bridge is not quite right for me a bit too weak compared to the neck necks ok but am spoilt by BKP's openness on my other guitars
..always toyed with p 90's but never quite found one I like or was too power hungry unsure which

Hmm.  I'm still unsure what you're after in a tone.  Something stronger than the GS pups - what about bass/mid/treble levels?

more bass especially on the bridge they are a bit light, treble and mids ain't bad....neck a bit more...open clarity

sorry add on question as well someone mentioned split/tap on a p90 whats that do soundwise and is it special order for wires on pickup

Tapping a P-90 "switches off" some of the pickup's windings so you get a slightly thinner, brighter sound.  So a tapped BKP-91 might sound more like a BKP-90, for example.

I think it's a special order job.

Yep, as Phil says.  I have a tapped MQ in my SG-1.  The effect is subtle and I don't use it that often.

If you want more bass, I'd go for MQs.

Listen to Alex Harvey, Mountain, Early Sabbath, Neil Young, Steve Marriott, Green Day, George Thorogood, Boston.  This is just a start,  there are so many recordings with them.  A lot of Punk bands bought Juniors and specials, because they were cheap and basic.  I love the sound of them and have many guitars with them.  An MQ in your Gordon Smith would work a treat.

Mine's in the bridge - it's a single pickup guitar.

The Who - Live at Leeds is alos classic P-90 tone.

p90's are great. They basically sound mid-way between a (fender-style)single coil  and a humbucker. They have a bit more power, and are warmer than single coils, but have a bit more top end sparkle (than humbuckers) like single coils.

Only real downside is that they aren't noiseless like humbuckers. And aren't really as powerful, if you're after, say, modern metal.

that's a simplification, but i guess it'll do.

I would definetly go with MQ's also because you already have 3 BKP humbuckers.  I seen muse play live a couple of months ago and that's what MB used live.
