Thank you all, that really encourages me, particularly as a forum and BKP newb. I've lurked and gained so much knowledge from the seasoned heads at this site, that I feel better having contributed something that might be a useful reference for others.
Chris, I've just done an evaluation of the Mules and posted it on the Pickups forum; this should hopefully give a fuller answer to your questions but yes, this is my first set of BKPs(though it very nearly wasn't, as I was going seriously close to getting some from Andy Blake at Wizard Pickups).
I think I'm right in that Stormy Mondays are presently with nice alnico2; the clips I've heard suggest that these too are lovely( I bet Tim's P90s are great too for tone). I'm tentatively guessing that you're thinking of SM in the neck? Depending on the guitar, I'd guess that this is a very tasteful combo.
My favourites for this style? Hard to answer in a sense, as I found(as I said to evrton_fc) I was adjusting my style once the Mules were in. (I was "thinking Santana" but it was "emerging like Jeff Beck" is as close as I can put it). Until fairly recently, when I acquired both a PRS(Dragon2s) and the Yamaha, I recorded similar "balladic" tracks pretty much exclusively with my 2002 Les Paul Standard: its Burstbuckers got me very close, yet I was conscious of staying away from really low registers as they were a bit boomy and flabby. I feel the Mules are already helping to free me up, as they retain the " sensual curves"! Certainly I'll be mostly using the Muled Yammy now for recording humbuckers; I use Wizard Tweed Tones on a Jap 68RI strat for my more bluesy tracks.
