Author Topic: Strats Pickups and prewired plates (Read 5283 times)

Hi there ya'll,

Im looking for 2 BKP's for the middle and bridge (or maybe just the bridge) of my American Strat (Tim might remeber me from Music Live last year as I only bourght middle and bridge Apache's then). I have heard great things about Irish our sets and mothers milk etc. I love the sound of the vintage middle/bridge combo and I only ever use them on my other strat. However, with just stock fender pickups in my American strat, it just sounds dull, real dull. I was looking for a nice, glassy tone which will give me a fuller, more powerful distortion tone on the middle/bhridge setting whilst retaining that classic phased sound. I use a Marshall DSL 50 so the distortion is class anyway, but my strat with apaches sounds thin on it. So i want a new , prewired scratch plate for my oAmerican strat to really do it justice. I live near Sounds Great Music in Heald Green, Cheshire, and was tlking to Keving there (their guitar Tech) and he was saying i could tlk to tim to my customise some Single coils to really fit my sound. What do you reccommend?

Irish Tours are great pickups, they drive a bit more than stock and they have a nice blues tone. Another to think about is the Slowhand, but this might have too much mid in it for you, though if the Apaches sound thin, perhaps it will work. I am not sure about the Mothers Milk - I haven't heard them in the flesh, but I don't thik that they are that much more powerful than the Apaches, just a different tone.

I think i will ring tim nxt monday coz im hopeless at explaing stuff on forums. lol. Thanks for the advice, the irish tours do tickle my fancy, especially since it's like the 'real' gallegher tone (i say 'real' meaning rory, not those poncy mancs, lol)

I like Rory's stuff too. I met Donal last year and was going over some of what he was doing for the new release (the one just out). I have Irish Tours on a hard tail Strat and really like the sound. I am just waiting for a Slowhand for the middle position on another guitar.

There are some sound bites with the Irish Tours and Mother's Milk sets. I don't think there is a Slowhand set though.

Tim is great to talk to about pickups, he will get you set up with the perfect set. He is also really paitent, I know because he spends ages talking to me about sounds :aww:

Ace, thanks man. I appreciate it. I just got a yarbird neck and two piledriver bridges for my bros teles (the one without a yardirb has a USA Fender Tele pickup which we got for free, long story) so i cant wait to here them. I also bulit a guitar and that has 2 BKP's init, as well as my old fender singlecoil from the strat i put apaches in in the neck. I have a P-90 in the middle and a Black dog in the bridge. They both whale so well, the P-90 is so sexy, I was thinking bout getting one for my American strat instead of a single coil, in the bridge, or (routing permitting) put it on its own, halfway between the mid and bridge position. That would look ace and sound brilliant.

I have a PRS-EG with Crawler/P-90/P-90. It was at LGS this year. The sound is awesome. I also have the Pig-90 to put in a Double Cutaway LP Junior. Problem is that I will have to wait 3 weeks because I sent it with my other stuff on a boat :crzy:

lol, unlucky bout ur LP jnr.
I love random pickup positions. Maybe i will try a single p-90 , slanted, between a mid.bridge position, wooooo! Then theres no knobs/switches for my toi cut up my hand on. But, if your hand dont bleed it hasnt been a good gig for me, lol. I play hard usually cut my wrist or index finger. Since i use small Dunlop Jazz III picks, it seems to make it worse, lol. my nail just gets smaller coz its always being covered with scar tissue. lol, oh well!

Have you checked out the players room,there are clips of the Irish Tours and the Mothers Milk which may help.

Just ordered myself a set of irish tours to fit in my anniversary strat, after trying them they blew me away, has all the balls and thickness(oo-er) of tone you could want, Very un strat like to be honest. cant wait till they arrive so i can transform my strat.
iWas talking to a guitar legend in the shop today who was singing bare knuckles praises. All will say, he isnt as miserable as he used to be(tenious, but i think you'll get it!)
If the real pro's and the people who cn have any guitar they want( he has stacks of real vintage gear) are on the bare knuckle train, then there is not stopping them!
And yes, he did pay for them!
