hey, the reason this has gone off-topic is because everyone has agreed that the noise music is either a joke or it is cr@p.
its easy to move away from something that is cringing to listen to.

Tom, always got me stumped too. I can just imagine the rehearsals. If it were me I would be saying to the conductor that I wasn't sure that I'd got bar 31 right and would he mind awfully if we went over it a few times for my benefit.I could then drift off on a daydream. Cage did stuff also that was random and sounded like it was being made up on the spot. The guys you mentioned seemed to be in the same ballpark. I suppose in the days when just about anything could be described as a "happening" then it is no surprise that this kind of thing occurrs.

Some really interesting YouTube clips here guys! I've seen/heard ("heard") 4'33" before, but I can't help thinking there's a more than a touch of Emperor's New Clothes about it. I wonder how seriously it's meant to be taken?

Quite liked the Amon Amarth clip, despite the title (In Pursuit of Vikings? What'll you do when you catch them, big boy?). The Belphegor track has that drumming I can't stand (DuDuDuDuDuDuDuDuDuDuDuDu at top speed for 5 minutes...).

But the Týr track is excellent! I love the vocals and the folky feel. There should be more folk metal bands, I think. What's the best album for a noob to try?

Ha, mine too, once upon a time. I had that Bill Steer/Jerry Cantrell kind of look, but I started to get worried it was all going to fall out so I got it cut short. It's still short, but it never did fall out (touch wood).

I didnt like the drumming in Belphegor either, it has no groove to get into. Tyr was good! Seems like there was a really great atmosphere at that gig. As Phil says, care to name some good folk metal albums for us noobs?

Whilst we're on the subject of hair, last time I went for a trim (had a job interview so I needed to look smart, still didnt get the job :lol: ) the hairdresser said "most girls would kill for hair like yours" because its thick and wavy/curly.. I always thought that was annoying because it looks messy all the time :P

They have only released 3 of them, but I like the 2 newer ones better than the debut
so Eric The Red and Ragnarok are the way to go, altho if you like more doomy fell also check out the debut How Far To Asgaard

and yeah, Týr kick some serious ass, very fresh sounding folk metal and they sing in 3 different languages!

Korpiklaani. folk metal AT THE BEST!
i had the pleasure of seeing em in concert last year and meeting the guys afterwards. not only top notch guys that KNOW how to party, but showmen to the last. realy, the gig was one of the best metal gigs i've been to. the songs are excellent (about beer, woods and hunting in the woods while drinking beer)
they are my favourite live band, right next to iron maiden.

i wonder if i got any pics from that gig =/ but probably lost them in the disk crash. i cant wait to see em next time. they love to play here, cos they get blown away by the audience every time.
