Rock band Slayer are responsible for the creation of a brutal genre of metal of which they're still the masters. Guitarist Kerry King's instantly identifiable sound is an integral part of that and his new Marshall Signature 2203KK Head delivers every bit of his trademark tone. "To me Jim Marshall is the ultimate rock star because he makes us all sound better," King states. "It's an incredible honor to have my signature on an amp right next to his."

Throughout his career, King has relied on a mid-'80s 100-Watt JCM800 2203 head he calls "the Beast" as the very heart of his sound. He's also always used an outboard, 10-band graphic EQ to boost the mids in his guitar signal and drive the input of "the Beast" a little harder. This signature EQ curve/boost is built into the front-end of the 2203KK and its intensity is adjustable via a control aptly named "Assault." King also always employs a Noise Gate to ensure total silence when he's not playing. The 2203KK boasts a built-in, studio-quality noise reduction which is both fast and adjustable. A quartet of KT88 power valves also adds what King refers to as "warmth and girth."

The 2203KK has now replaced "the Beast" as King's main and only amp. "The 2203KK punches like Mike Tyson in his prime," the legendary Slayer guitarist concludes. "It's definitely the coolest thing I've ever been in the presence of."

Marshall Amplification introduces the Limited Edition Zakk Wylde Microstack. "Zakk is not only a fantastic ambassador for Marshall Amplification but also a great friend of mine," Marshall founder, Dr. Jim Marshall, OBE, states. "It was over a few whiskeys with Zakk that I came up with the idea of creating a microstack for him and I enjoyed watching my design team customize its finish to fit Zakk's inimitable image."

Based on the MG15MSII Microstack — Zakk's longtime practice amplifier of choice — this new signature microstack offers Marshall-size tone in a compact form sharing the unmistakable look of Zakk's trademark Marshall "Wall of Doom" he uses whenever he plays live.

Measuring a mere 37"H x 15"W x 9"D, the 2-channel (Clean & Overdrive), 15-Watt head powers two 1x10" speaker cabinets, one straight and one slanted, for that classic Marshall stack look. Zakk's trademark look include bull's-eye motifs on the front-panel along with authentic TV grill cloth and gold piping, topped off by gold-brushed Marshall logos on the head and speaker cabinets. Controls include Clean Volume, Overdrive Gain, Overdrive Volume and Reverb level, as well as a 3-way EQ network with controls for Bass, Contour and Treble.

The amp features Marshall's proprietary FDD™ (Frequency Dependent Damping) circuitry, which accurately mimics the interaction of a tube amp's power stage with the loudspeakers it is driving. Additionally, the new microstack boasts a CD input, an Emulated Line Out and a Headphone jack that, when used, mutes the speakers, for "silent" practice sessions (a feature Wylde never uses!).

And if I'm not mistaken, Chris George (Marshall demonstrator) is a BKP user.

True.

I like that Kerry King amp, but somehow I'm a bit negative on using anybodys signature stuff as it takes a bit off of the originality of yourself
(just my opinion tho)

I don't mind signature stuff, just some different sounds to play around with and do your own thing. Because unless you're having an amp custom built to your specs it's not going to be "original" anyway.   8)

i thought i saw a custom aged pickup in his Les Paul! i instantly thought "BK?"

i love the sound of that KK amp! its pretty mind-blowing!
i don't mind using sig stuff, just as long as it leaves scope to create your own sound. if you have the same view, Don't buy the Dimebucker. it does dime's sound very well indeed, but i can't get anything else!
the razorback itself is exceptional. plays nicely, comfortable to hold and have slung around yourself, looks deadly!!!

anyway back to the point, the Kerry King head sounds very destructive!
the Zakk Wylde sounds good and get close to his tone, but that (unlike the Kerry) doesn't let you find your own sound. plus, it is the classic MG distortion which i'm sick of.

That reverb was horrible on the video when Kerry is playing, could hardly hear the tone!

Sounds nice when Chris George is playing though, the bluesy clean tone he's getting is so good! Crunch and heavy tones sound good as well, better than the vintage modern videos I've heard!

Basically, I want one

Your looking at a Slayer amp and you say the best thing is the bluesy cleans... :?

Yeah, I actually prefer it (and the crunch) to the heavy tone he's getting later on in the clip. So badly wanna try one of these out.

theres apparantly a Kerry King practice amp aswell...

I might just pull the trigger on one of those mini stacks...probably a non ZW depending on the prices.

heh if hes using BK's, the amps probably sound a little bit better in the videos than what the non BKPers will hear when they get their amps home ;)

The videos were pretty shitety quality. The reverb in all the scenes $%&#ed with the bass.

The Kerry King amp had really good cleans and blues sounds! Even if that sound came from a normal non MV marshall it would still be good. wow.
