Yeah I know where you are coming from-the Slowhands do that well too.

What do you think of the clean sound of the Slowhands vs the Apaches?

I think the Apache is the better but that is just my taste. I like the warmth and clear tone that you get with the Apache. The Slowhands have great mids admittedly-I love them both but the Apache has it for me. I do think the Apache positions 2 & 4 are not as good as the Slowhands though but I think that that is the mids coming through a bit. I have a push/pull pot on the Apache Strat btw and the neck/bridge tone is very usable- heads a little into Tele territory and I have started to use it more and more.

Hi Dennis, go with the Apaches if you are using a maple fingerboard.  With rosewood it is still a great sound, but the mother's milks also sound very good.
So many pickups, so little time

hmmmm...don't say the Slowhands are better in 2 & 4, that means I don't know yet what I shall do, Apaches or something else  :D
But I heard some nice sound samples from apaches in the "in between positions"  though.

That is exactly what Tim said!
I am going to use a maple fingerboard for the strat assembly thing for sure.

But then the choices..Apaches....or maybe sultan's....or maybe go for Slowhands anyway....choices, choices  :D

Dennis, in the case of 2 & 4 positions, If I were to choose between the two, I would definately go with the Apaches-the difference(to my ears) is not significant enough. It is just the thicker tone of the Slowhands -as the 2 & 4 positions can be hollow.

Maybe I should just go with the Apaches then!
I finally wanted a guitar to have a Shadows tone, and also the Knopfler tone as in On every street...that is soo sweet.

But I still have some time to decide, as I only have a strat body at the moment.
I first want to finish my 7-string, and after that I will do the strat-assembly project. So I am still in the "search for components" stage.
I see lots of strat necks with rosewood fingerboards though....quite a bit less with a maple fingerboard. Maybe I end up making the strat neck myself, as I did with the 7-string.

Hello,

After lots of "no-time enough to finish this guitar" I am finally sort of putting it together (except for covers and stuff like that), so heres my first self-built thingy:

I am soo curious about how it will going to sound with the ceramic warpig and the cold sweat!
Anyone suggestions about how it will sound?  :D
