Great again _tom_!

There's a quick shot of PG's GH100L on his new DVD, the settings are:

Resonance switch down,
Presence 10
Bass 3
Mid 4.5
Treble 4
Master 1 (maybe he needs a hotplate too!)
Gain 10
... But there's no pic of the Drive setting..
I'd  be interested to see how this works in your setup.

Paul must have really dark and middy speakers, because those settings sound awful on my setup

Seeing as mum and dad are out I just did a quick recording of a load of badly played Gilbert riffs (and some general jamming) with similar settings to the opeth clip, just lower gain. Scarified and Superheroes are just terrible  :P

Not at all. Its just i see your comments on peoples clips and you think that to get a heavier tone you need more gain. You well get more definition and clarity with slightly less distortion, but with the poweramp section of your amp turned up very loud, and you will get a tighter more defined sound. Try it out sometime.

I tryed to play with LESS distortion.. and what sound did i get ?
less sustain on licks , slides and pull offs.. on lead section..
and kinda not enough Power .
whern i hear a sound similar to that one, it reminds me my experience with Low gain stuff.
But i do realized that , with my Nailbomb, i donīt need to put my gain more than 5 on the 5150. iīm currently using 5,1/2 , almost 6 on the 5150 gain... with some Low output pickups. and with medium and high output pickups, i use more.

Maybe itīs soemthing to do with my chops not being compatible or skilled enough to play with less distortion?!?!
i quite Love that sound of AS I LAY DYING - SHADOWS ARE SECURITY.
thats a $%&#ing great Distortion Sound.

whats yout opinion on that?
also, the best Opeth Production ever on cd is Deliverance.
Awesome drums, guitar, vocal, sound.
but i really preffer the sound of the Morningrise Bass. HAHAHAHAH

Deliverance is 2nd favourite in recording production.... GR is easily my favourite though......

the distortion sound beats ALL! it has definition, power, grind, bass, everything!!!!!

it's my favourite guitar tone, especially on the Baying Of the Hounds
