New amp !
« on: February 14, 2007, 11:01:22 AM »
The mail truck just pulled over and handed me a big package. Here's what I found inside:

I sounds friggin' amazing! I've never heard an amp that has so much gain that is actually usable. Usually the gain is adjustable from 0-4 and from that on there's no change in the sound, just more mush. This amp just crushes and the cleans are out of this world!

I recorded a clip with some example settings from the manual. It's recorded from the record out jack to the mixing board, no post-processing so it's a bit rough. You can find the clip in the Players section.

All in all, this preamp blows everything I've previously owned out of the water, no contest.

Am I missing something, or did you fail to mention what it actually is?!

This thing is truly a beast, I've never heard such a powerful sounding distortion. Just endless massive roar (fills the crumbling sky...), just screaming heavy metal. I'm in tonal heaven  8)

Nope, the IV was released after the quad. Quad's  channel 1 is similiar to Mark IIC and channel 2 is similiar Mark III.

When I say similiar I mean it's 98% identical.

MK iV AND MK iiC+ ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL...I own a Iv..2 of my band mates own a 2c+-at venue levels, identical...when you deal in mesa high gain, you are dealin'////lots of character..lovely picking dynamics...i really feel like it is a perfect marriage of a hot marsh el-34 and a 6l6 monster...i play boog exclusively-awesome customer service/boogieboard is as informative as it gets...remember, many amp gets wet, but the boog wets the sheets...rawwwwkkkk!congrats

As I mentioned, the chan 1 is like IIC, not the plus version (too bad  :) ) but you're absolutely right about the mesa's characteristic tone. You can dial a shiteload of gain and still have a 'contained' sound. I run the Quad through a VHT 2/90/2 which has KT-88s in it :D The bass is just crushing, we don't play with crazy volumes at the rehearsal place but still you can feel the bass pounding your chest with those palm mutes :D
