Well, I have my phases where I prefer one guitar, but they all get played except for two at the moment.

It might be good to stick to one, as you better learn all its subtleties and can express yourself more intensely maybe?

I have 3 Fender six strings, a Fender Bass and 2 acoustics ( a cheap Taki and a Washburn ).I use the Fenders a lot and I have no qualms about having them and thinking about it, I cannot imagine selling them. The bass is getting used a fair bit now as I am playing also in a blues/rock band too. 2 of those   guitars I have owned for nearly 30 years. As I rule I take the view that possessions own you and that you should not attach too much to them but I cannot say that about those 2 guitars. In answer to your original post, I would say much the same as Antag-you just never know. If you have it a few more years you might pick it up and it'll feel like home. They do take on a patina I think with the passage of time-just being around you   ( thats what I tell Mrs 38th anyway). If you are desperate for the money then you must do what you must do. Meanwhile, I have heard of someone selling a Jap Tele semi allegedly with P90s and he wants £350.00 for it.....hmmmmm.

You can never have too many guitars.

In case of a fire, I'll save the old Yamaha SG because that one can never be replaced. It has history and soul.

What would bug me the most after that fire is that I will have to wait at least another five weeks for a new Gretsch.

Another argument with not relying on a particular axe, is that one can get so set in their ways, that they can't  adapt  to another instrument in a pinch...
Fortunately guitarists usually get thumbs up to bring 2 axes to a gig...
unlike drummers, that frequently have to share a common set, & aren't welcome to move things around much...

Poolhall analogies:  we are welcome to have custom axes, even if  we  have to grow into them...Think of the disdain one exacts should he foolishly bring his own his own pool cue to the pub: You better have some skills, or else!

a pool shark staggers into a room, takes the most warped cue off the wall, & humbles every would-be hustler with their in the place...
 That's flexibility...

I think guitars are like different tools for different jobs...
like golf clubs...

I like this analogy.

I have a friend who plays golf. He's mediocre but still its a hobby and he likes it. He brought his clubs to work one day for a game straight after work with a buddy.

I asked him "whats the wood for?" He replied. "its a mystical, majic thing that no one nows how to use. Everyones got one, no one can use it, but it makes you feel good that its there. Just in case."

This is tue for a lot of Players (not all). They like the idea of owning a lot of guitars some quite expensive. But really, something that could "drive" almost as far but with better skilled hands would do just as good a job.

Yet we still spend our Hard Earned on over the top gear that we really dont "need" but desire anyway.

meh I'm a culprit.... will continue to be so.

Keep the guitar.... get more.

Whenever anyone who doesn't play hears/sees how many guitars I have, they say "OMG, why do you need all these guitars?" and look at me sideways like I'm crazy.

But reading this thread again, I'm just about the only person who's suggested it's actually good to sell a guitar every now and then.

So maybe I'm not crazy after all... or maybe we all are.

I love you guys, BKP-forumites!!

(Thinks:  Hmmm... maybe my friends think I am crazy, but it's nothing to do with the guitar collection...  :? )
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Guitarists - If you've met one you've met them all :D

Or the good ol'

A friend of my guitars is a friend of me.

But yeah, sometimes it's nice to feel that you're not the only guitar crazed nut, and that's why I love this forum :D
