St Anger was total shitee, lets not skirt the issue.  There are some ok riffs, but the best Metallica stuff is about more than that - no way can it stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Justice/Puppets/Lightening.

If you watch the 'Some Kind Of Monster' DVD you'll see exactly WHY the album sucked so much - they're clutching at straws trying to construct songs out of snippets from jam sessions.

SONGWRITING is whats missing, as is PASSION.

Metallica need to strip it all down, write songs and record them as a band (live).  oh, and a strong producer who won't kiss their arse would be a good move too.

From what i've heard of the new stuff it wasn't very impressive.

Heres one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1CCiwd6UZs&search=metallica%20new%20song

why am i the only one liking this? EXCEPT for the voice. IT HAS A COOL SOLO though! with key changes too..... some cool thrashy riffs, some stomping riffs.... it fits together better than St.Anger's songs IMO. but not as good as the ultimate 4 metallica thrash bibles.

it isnt as good because you can hardly hear the guitars

if you find the guitar pro tab you will see that the guitar riffs are actually pretty awesome

WARNING!

Cliched, but genuine, opinion coming.

-----------

RTL, MoP and AJFA are incredible. I dont like so much, but can appreciate why people like KeA and TBA. I liked load. I hated reload. St anger is dreadfull.

Metallica were great but are now pathetic

-----------

Those two new songs are the worst things I've heard from them yet.

"The New Song" is definitely growing on me.  Not sure about "The Other New Song", but it improves in the middle.

They'll sound better on record, assuming they don't adopt the St Anger recording approach this time...
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
