Pickup cover problems!

Hi to Tim an all the guys at BKP

Just got a quick question, I've recently loaded a pair of cammo nailbombs into an ibanez of mine, very impressed with the results, but as I do quite a lot of plam-muting, after only 2 rehersals i've found that the cammo is rubbing off the pickup in the bridge pickup in the palm area!

Has anyone got any ideas or solutions for this.

I think you have the pickup too close to the strings. If so, try lowering it a bit, chances are that your sound will improve as well.

When they were installed the pickups were set by Kevin our tech at Sounds Great, they are pretty much flush with the pickup rings, but i'm getting no problems with the mounting rings at all.

Not really bothered if there is nothing I can do to stop it, kinda gives the pickups a more worn in feel, but i'm just concerned that it will all come off eventually

Strange. I don't have any problems with my black and distressed covers. And Gawd knows I am a string abuser. :twisted:

The camo shouldn’t come off, it’s not a coating of paint or anything, and it’s actually a chemical reaction which changes the colour of the metal. You might have fairly acidic sweat which could be causing another reaction with the chemicals used to distress them, or something! Do you find that nickel covers age quickly when you play them?

id see a doctor about that heavy duty sweat... and id stear clear of playing any nicely finished guitars...  :lol:

I doubt its his sweat, the pickup surrounds are chrome, and are completly unaffected. We have another member of staff who can age hardware with one session, his sweat is so caustic, but have never known this steve.
Interesting thats it a chemical reaction, didnt know that.
Will have to get him to wear gloves, might improve his playing!! :shock:

That’s the thing with chrome, it doesn’t age! Nickel ages, chrome always stays like bathroom taps!. Theres lots of things we do to the covers. Vie been experimenting wit different base materials, temperatures (blow torch and freezing water!) and different chemicals to react with the acid. It’s all great fun (one of my fav things to do at work) check out the Nailbomb gallery for the varied effects.
Ill look into the camo rubbing off tomorrow. What colour is it? Is it the red/brown or the more green finish?

No, come and see me! I could do with some of that heavy duty sweat for a Rory Gallagher replica I'm making for a customer...................... :o  (which will be fitted with Irish Tours of course!)

Thanks Tech, I've owned many guitars with covers, both gold and nickel, and never had the prob with any of them, very strange, may have something to do with the way i'm palm-muting in the new band i'm jamming with.
oh well, just have to "relic" the guitar to go with the pickups now! lol

Just another quick question, i'm dropping my E down to octave A, Zakk style! Anyone got any comments as to how my NB will cope with the super low tuning?

I've fitted a Nailbomb to a Baritone Strat, no problem handling the low notes.
