Laney LC15/Cab question...
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:43:52 PM »
Okay, so im getting my first amp head, a Marshall JTM60 / JCM 600 (same thing)

Now... looking at cab's, i feel ever so slightly ripped off.

all i wanted was a 1x12 or 10, and that's what the Laney LC15 has, a Celestion Tube 10, which is what i was going to put into an 'home made' cab anyway!

And i like the idea of having two amp's... i get bored, really quick.

So anyway, the back of the Jtm says 60watts at 16/8ohm ext on one socket, and 16ohm main on the other...

Could i plug the speaker of the Laney LC15 into the 16/8ohm socket and not have things blow up on me?

I just need something to bide time until i can afford a proper 2x12... with tone tubbys :)

do you know what the Laney's speaker can handle-you are propsing to run a 60w amp into a speaker intended for a 15w amp.The speaker will have some power hndling headroom no doubt but I think you are chancing it.Also, check the impedence of the speaker too. Heavier Than Hell will be able to give you some advice I am sure...heavier old chap, where art thou?

tube10 is a just 30watt speaker as far as i can remember... i think the g10 vintage is 60watt - you could stick one of those in the lc15... wouldn't be my 1st choice, but it "gets you by" as you said ;)

Ah... figures.

Now im looking at those Harley Benton G212's on Thomann, 16ohm into 2x60 watts... v30's... cool. Cheap too! and pretty smart looking.

A shame the Framus 1x12 is 8ohms... unless the head can run at 8ohms. There isnt a switch like there was on another amp i had. Grr. *headache*
