Well, Tim should be (hopefully) winging his way back to England at this point in time.
Thanks to a long layover @ Newark airport, Tim was able to spend the day with Phil King and m'self.
I took NYC transit out to Hoboken where I met up with Phil, and then we drove up to Newark to pick up Tim. What followed was about 7 hrs, all of them very enjoyable, that was by turns inspiring & entertaining.
Thanx to Phil for driving and supplying his most excellent home/guitar laboratory. Tim sat perched in Phil's living room for most of the day just shredding away on various guitars, relaxing and swapping stories.
A few things of note:
- Tim is a scary guitar player. He can play everything from Yngwie to Jimmy Page and all points between with aplomb.
- Tim is totally passionate about music, guitar playing, and Bare Knuckle pickups.
- Tim is a font of knowledge regarding all kinds of aspects of playing guitar, gigging, running a business, etc ... and he's not stingy with his knowledge!
By the time we dropped Tim off at the terminal, I felt like I had been in a master class all day; it was definitely a learning experience for me. I was so pleased to see that, tonally, my taste is not that far off from Tim's.
Phil can tell you all the guitars & amps that were played; I lost track. All I know for sure was that we played through my live rig for a fair amount of time. (Splawn Quick Rod/Hiwatt 4x12)
I can't begin to get into all the subjects we discussed (from crazy gig stories to the Green Man; the nature of good pizza to getting a good guitar tone for solos)
So: Thanx again to Phil for being the coolest host this side of the Rio Grande, and to Tim for being a good friend, great guitarist, and inspiring figure!
