Alright, well, I've decided on the ceramic warpig for the bridge pickup, but I'm not so sure the warpig neck pickup is what I should get.

the style of music I'll be playing with this guitar is tech-metal in the vein of bands like Between The Buried and Me, Protest The Hero, The Human Abstract, etc. maybe a little stuff like Botch and Dillinger Escape Plan too, but closer to the firt 3 bands I listed.

basically... heavy, chaotic, tech-metal/hardcore but with lots of melodic shred parts... sweep picking galore... so, I a high output, aggressive, tight bridge pickup (I think the ceramic warpig will do that nicely) and a nice round, liquidy neck pickup good for shred... more modern high gain metal shred than 80's shred though

usually for shred people mention the nailbomb, miracle man, and cold sweat necks. I don't see people mention the warpig neck for this... does it not do it well? also, I ruled out the nailbomb because it's supposed to be sharp and aggressive, and while that's what I want for the bridge pickup, it's not what I want for the neck

if the warpig neck won't work for this. do you think I should get something like the miracle man neck or coldsweat neck and just have it wound a little hotter to match the bridge better?

these are pretty much dead on examples of the kind of sound I want. which neck pickup would work well for shred leads like this?

p.s. one other option I thought about was maybe just going for the nailbomb bridge/coldsweat neck combo, since I like the sounds of each for their jobs, but have them wound to have similar output to warpigs, because I want the punch and a little compression you get from high output pickups...

anyways, if anybody can listen to the examples I posted and tell me what's best for the job, I'd appreciate it. and sorry again for my long ass posts... :)

I dont know what a pig neck sounds like, but I can whole-heartedly recommend a cold sweat for what you want.

I don't have my own experience but I've heard thousands of times that CS is more on the vintage side, so I think Miracle Man would be perfect for ya

thanks. do you think the difference in outputs would be too much though? the CWP bridge is probably somewhere around 24k and I think the coldsweat neck is only around 8k.... maybe I should just get a coldsweat and have it wound a bit hotter to match up better with the CWP in the bridge?

I have a CS neck and a CWP bridge in one of my guitars. They balance very well. However they were made for one order. I imagine if you ask for it to be balanced against a CWP then it would be no problem (if it takes anything at all, I dont know anything but the results, which are excelent).

The CS neck comes in at DC8.35K but don't worry, that's more than hot enough for a neck pocket and will balance really well with a CWP-DC21.5K
Another suggestion is th Nailbomb neck-great cleans, plenty of power and good articulation under gain.

Okay, cool. Thanks, Tim. I think the nailbomb neck would be a little too sharp sounding for me. I like a warmer, rounder sound in the neck. I think the nailbomb would have a little too much of an aggressive edge, especially since this is a 24 fret guitar. if it was 22 frets and the neck pickup was up higher (so it was less trebley), it'd probably work well for me.

Could someone tell me what the warpig neck sounds like and why it wouldn't suit shred very well?

Also, does the ceramic warpig sound as thick as the alnico warpig? I picked ceramic because it's supposed to be tighter, but I like the thick sound of the warpigs.... would the ceramic warpig have to lose some highs to get a similar sound? would that take away some tightness?

I dont think anyone has said that the warpig neck doesnt shred well. It just gets overlooked because there are BKs that are particularly good for that.

The CWP is plenty thick. Thickness wise, its hard for me to compare because my WP and CWP are in different giutars and different tunings and different string guages AND different string brands. That said, they sound siimilarly thick. Which, if either , actually comes out on top I dont know, but you wont be dissatisfied with CWP thickness.
