Slash tone from a miracle man pickup

is at all possible to get a slash type tone from this pickup? im playing with an epiphone les paul standard through a marshall avt50.

since i got the pickup my tastes have changed a bit and wondered if you had any ideas about eq or drive levels that could get me nearer to the tone. ive messed about with it a bit but to no avail.

Amen to that - I've owned a calibrated set of both the Rebel Yells and Mules and the Mules through my old Marshall Silver Jubilee could nail Slash's tone. They're both really versatile sets of pickups, too - though I've never owned a set of Miracle Mans (and I don't doubt they're great at what they do), I'd say it's a safe bet that the Mules could cover a wider tonal palette.

For live appearances, the JCM SLASH Marshalls  are used for a dirty sound. For the dirty tone, the SLASH recommended settings are: Presence: 7, Bass: 7, Mid: 4.5, Treble: 7, Output Master: 6, Lead Master: 10, Input Gain: 6.5. The JCM SLASH Marshalls are used for a clean sound, too, when modified with KT88 output tubes. The SLASH Marshall should be tuned this way for the clean tone (SLASH recommendations): Presence: 0, Bass: 9, Mid: 3, Treble: 5 1/2, Output Master: 10, Lead Master: 0, Input Gain: 4. All tubes are groove tubes.

hope it helps - personally i wouldn't be able to just buy a new set of pick up's (they ain't cheep) so maybe an eq tweek like above might give you a good enough approximation.

I wonder if my playing and tone would improve if I took up smoking, perhaps I should start with Nicotine patches and work up

On topic, I would think it quite difficult to get the warmth of his tone with a modern voiced pickup

I'm so happy with my Mules!!!

I couldn't of picked a better pup set for my LP!

They really cleaned up my amp. I can't believe the clean I'm getting out of my JCM 900 halfstack. I'm still fine tuning the bridge pup. I think I almost have it where I want it.

I downloaded some backing tracks the other day. I just need to find time to record.

i understand what your saying, however i was talking about getting a near sound because your equally not going to sound exactly like slash playing through an AVT, however an "approximation" is possible. otherwise it will be a set of Seymour Duncan's & a modded JCM 800 which will be a fair few quid!

Those settings given above might get you nearer to the tone, but because of the tonal balance of your Miracle Man and even the materials of your Epiphone Les Paul Standard, you're going to have to listen with your ears and tweak it yourself. I had a '59 Les Paul replica and a Marshall Jubilee and those settings worked wonders, but with your setup you'll have to do some fiddling.

Best of luck - you picked a solid inspiration in Slash. Just don't try to emulate his whole overdose-on-heroin-get-resuscitated-and-then-play-your-gig attitude.  :D
