Tune-o-matic bridge on Strat?

Good idea or bad idea? Y'see I don't get along with the bridge on my Strat at all. Would I need to change the bridge pickup?
Yes folks, I've decided to keep my Strat. The neck may give me problems with some weird chords (Imagine an F sharp minor barre chord but with the fourth finger on the first string (4th fret) and the third finger on the fifth string (3rd fret). The 4th string always goes clonk for me - but not on my SG)
Question no 2, would it be possible to fit a Gibson scale length neck? I suppose not, but I thought I'd ask...
As for the volume knob, well, until I've decided whether to go for an all options type set up (Any combination serial/parallel, phasing and so on) or put a humbucker in the neck and treat the bridge and middle together as one pickup, or whether to have a humbucker in the neck and paired single coils at the bridge and middle (I'd only need an extra bridge pup...) I think I'll leave it as it is...

As the song doesn't say. I know what I want, but I don't know how to get it. (flexibility, coupled with the ability to go to excess when required, if that's any help :) )

You may need a Gibson spaced pickup but more importantly is the fact that a tune-o-matic is much taller than a strat bridge so you may need some serious shims under the neck or do some woodwork to get an angled neck like on a Gibson.

You may need a Gibson spaced pickup but more importantly is the fact that a tune-o-matic is much taller than a strat bridge so you may need some serious shims under the neck or do some woodwork to get an angled neck like on a Gibson.

If it can be done, then I know the man to do it. Having the neck angled sounds good... (Can't you tell I'm more a Gibson sort of gal than Fender?) :)

As for changing the pickup, I'll have to think about that. The bridge pickup is the one I use most and the one that makes me like the tone... :?

wouldn't you need to get a conversion neck? how would it be possible to put on a neck with a different scale length with out screwing up the intonation?

i was just making sure that it was known, it would be a bit of a nasty surprise if someone went and bought a new neck, only to find out that the guitar didn't work with it

Does your Strat have a tremolo?  It's going to look a bit strange if you put a tune-o-matic in front of that gaping hole.  You could get it filled and refinished, but it's a lot of hassle.

I think this might end up costing you more than selling the Strat and buying another guitar.

Yes, it does. It's a Kahler 2520 (or 2500 series anyway) that's had all the fine tuners removed - probably to make restringing less of a hassle, I don't know since I bought it 2nd hand.

If it wasn't for the sentimental attachment - I lent it to someone 12 years ago and only got it back recently, then I'd definitely sell it and get another SG - I like SGs a whole lot more - and put in a trio of Painkillers - if possible - if not,  just the two.

Actually, having re-read the first sentance of that last paragraph... what am I talking about when I say 'sentimental attachment'?

Question. Would I be better off putting the old pickups back in before I sell it (and then sell the Trilogy Suites seperately) or not?

Sell separetely, the buyer most of the time wouldn't appreciate BKPs for what they are, and certainly wouldn't pay extra for them unless he/she knew how good they were, while if you sell the BKPs seperately, only somebody looking for them would buy them, and therefore put a reasonable price knowing what they're worth.

You'll get more money and a quicker sale on the pickups alone what with BKPs being desirable to have
