New p/ups for my Explorer
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:34:40 PM »
Since i'm loving the Ibanez w/ceramic holy diver calibrated set at the moment and even considered selling the Explorer at one point, i want something that will get me back into it.

At the moment the Ceramic Warpig isn't doing it for me, though a few months ago it was the best guitar ever!
I want a set of pickups that will make it rival the Ibanez, this may sound stupid but a set of pickups that will make it sound not as mahoganyish as i enjoy a brighter basswood sound now. Maybe the organic Nailbomb is the way to go, but i also considered the classic Metallica combo of MM and CS but that would surely sound pretty much the same as it does now.
perhaps it needs more mids and i should slap a set of Painkillers in there?
Maybe i need to go low gain and put some mules in it?!
I have no idea i just want something which will make me love it again!!

Edit: I think i need something bright in there like a set of Rebel yells for a less mahoganyish tone?

I've just put a Nailbomb in my Explorer and it got plenty of cut but still a seriously chunky bass end and agressive overall midrange.

One of the guy here on the forum was selling a NB for £45 - maybe you should snatch his hand off

Joe - IMO you should leave the Explorer as it is.

It's good to have a variety of guitars that sound totally different.  You might prefer the Ibanez/HD now, but sooner or later you'll com eback to the Explorer/'pig.

Some of my guitars don't get played for months on end, then I pick them up & for a few weeks play them obsessively...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

Antag you are kind of right, since I've been talking about it i have sat down and played it and realized it's not as bad as i thought it was. But still i would like something different.
Something along the lines of Skid Row, i'm fairly sure that's a Miracle Man or Holy Diver.

Also remember that the amp change that you have in mind will change your thoughts on the guitar / pickup combination (for the better I am sure)
