Which pickup?
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:45:50 PM »
I have an ESP M-II CTM. It has an ebony fingerboard, maple neck (neck-through), an alder body, and has a floyd rose in it.

I'm not really looking for intense hardcore metal, I want a bridge pickup that is versitile, but can still handle hard rock/metal tones with ease. I am going to be playing mainly hard rock/metal. Clean tones for bridge is not really important to me, because I use mainly the middle or neck positions for clean.

What I am needing is a smooth and a bit warmer (to somewhat even out the brightness of the woods of the neck/fretboard) sounding soloing tone that screams, and has rhythms that can easily cut through in the mix - I do not scoop mids or anything like that. For rhythm tones, think 60% Mesa Mark amps, and 40% Recto. For soloing, think kinda Steve Vai, except less warm and with more bite - but the same type of vibe, with the same amount of scream.

A fair amount of articulation is good, but I don't want it sounding dry or anything. Hopefully not super hot or anything - something around the hotness of a Duncan JB, or maybe just a tad hotter (I'm using a 59 in the neck and do not want to buy another pickup just to match the output of the bridge).

I am always in standard tuning.
