Been really getting into Jeff Beck recently so I thought I'd have a go at getting his kinda tone with my LP. I used the middle position and adjusted the individual volumes as I went along to get either a smoother or more biting tone. Setup was Epi LP - Keeley Rat - GH50L - SM57 on a G12H. Added a bit of delay in Cool Edit..

Hope you like it, my thumb is killing me, not used to picking with my fingers :lol: I need to work on the volume swells on my Les Paul, awkward positioning!

Sounds realy good Tom - nice one! I'm not so keen on the RAT myself, makes it sound a bit "woolly" for me? Personal preference though as I'm a "clean but dirty" tone fan (Angus, EVH etc).

You've obviously got the hang of recording with a mic!

I liked that one Tom-been a bit pushed and haven't been able to get to the PC much in last few days-I love that song-written by Stevie Wonder I do believe.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the Rat. I kinda like that wooliness though, great for gritty rock n roll :) I imagine it would sound great with a singlecoil guitar.

I have a Crunch Box on its way from the USA. Should be good through the Laney, though I mostly bought it for playing at lower volumes through either my V-Amp or my little practise amp, if I'm off to uni next year I cant take my Laney so I need to get good tones at lower volume

Good tones at lower volume? The Holy Grail you'll never find. To make good tone you need a good sized speaker that's "working" and tubes that are being pushed a little. You can't get that at room conversation levels.

The best tone I've got for practising is my modded Epi Valve Junior with a Marshall Guv'nor up front. I still have to crank it to a loud-ish level though, so no late night practice without loads of buzziness :(

I get my Crunch Box this week too - my mate is back from the US. I'm also in the final process of building a Treble Booster, plus I should be getting a Mosfet Booster in the near future too. I've get a box full of overdrive pedals from trying to get a good one for low volume levels - the Guv'nor is the best so far but i think one of the Boosters might be even better into the EVJ...

Nice tracks. Really enjoyed all your posts! I'm new round here and am going to upgrade the pickups on my PRS custom 22. I am thinking about mules and I know this sounds like a strange request but do you think you could put a post up of you playing just some clean chords, a few power chords, and a then bit of soloing, but without a backing track so I can get the flavour of the mule?
