it's probably because we got pickups, that do every maiden era sound already.

the VHII is for the early days, then you got the cold sweat and the holy diver. for the modern tones, you take pretty much just any british sounding pickup and run it through an amp with moderate gain and that's it.

It's a spelling mistake on the word own - Notice the letter p is right next to the o on a keyboard? - Basically people thought it looked cool and ran with it.

If someone has been "owned" it means they've basically been very much beaten.
