How about switching the tubes on your Laney to 6L6GCs to give it a new sound? maliciousteve did it on his VH100R and I think he said it's better for heavier stuff. For about £30 it's worth trying imo.

The lower mids are more present in the sound and the higher mids are dropped a little (more of a mesa type of sound but the voicing remains). The low end is tighter, a bit clearer too and the cleans sound much fuller with more body.
