Well, I'm 36, and like Jon Feline, I agree that growing up in the 70's and 80's really was a more innocent & care free time.

Like Jon, I have seen many a fine band over the years, such as Rush, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath (7th Star & original lineup), Motorhead, Dio, etc, etc

I managed to be around when Thrash took off, so I also got to see: Slayer, Metallica (without Cliff though :( ), Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Anthrax, Celtic Frost, etc, etc.

Then Death Metal & Hardcore Punk: Carcass, Napalm Death, Deviated Instinct, ENT, Filthkick, Paradise Lost, Death, Obituary, GWAR (awesome stage show!), Anathema, Morbid Angel, Cathedral, etc, etc.

I discovered Thrash Metal about 20 years ago, and started playing bass around then as well. Tastes vary from classic rock to hardcore punk to so called stoner rock to singer/songwriters and more. Still need to practise a lot more than I do!

I'm 39 until September 18th.

I grew up up in the 70's like Jonathon@Feline too. It was a great time musically. If you compare the dross you hear on radio stations these days to them days, all you would hear in various musical styles were guitars! Even the dance music in those days had guitars. That was called Disco in the late 70's but before that it was bands like Slade, The Sweet and erm Gary Glitter :!:  Who remembers The Old Grey Whistle Test? Now if you were into rock music of the day then, you had it all here. Good old BBC2. Whispering Bob Harris used to present it. I saw Mark Knopfler on there, never heard of him before. I was impressed. I was only about 11 though! Before that Lynyrd Skynyd. Allan Collins, man that fella could play! John Otway and Wild Willy Barratt were good too. Wild willy was the lead guitar player and used to jump on a yellow fuzzbox. That blew me away hearing that thing kick in as youngster. Probably a Boss OD3. Loads of other bands played on there. Plus Annie Nightingale was a nice bit of fluff! Plus in my local park where I used to live, every summer they would have free mini fests'! That was cool too. They don't anymore. Nazi Councils here wont let anyone have fun nowadays. They just want your money and fine pubs £20,000 for any breach of their music licence    I've had enough of North London. It's full of 'New Money Tossers' :roll:

I got into the Thrash bands too. I was into punk when i was younger though. That band you mentioned Paradise Lost, I saw them at The Royal Standard (A blindingly good blues/rock/metal pub, near to where the ultimate in teenage rebelion thrash worldwide supergroup, 'E17' are from ) in Walthamstow about 1989!
I did like my Mum's Hendrix, Stones, Faces, Led Zepp tapes before the punk thing though :) I kept on at them to get Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, but funny enough they didn't want it!

Oh dear, I am the oldest so far. Numerically I may be ancient and old enough to be many of you guys father ( I have 2 sons, one aged 22 and the other aged 16 ) I am 46 but in spite of my username, I am not stuck in the 1960's and in fact I was a kid during them. I am not a fan of ultra heavy stuff ( sorry WFD!) but I can appreciate it but Johhny Mac mentions a lot of the bands I loved . I loved some of the punk stuff too but I was more into the music that followed and was then described as new wave.

Not any more :fouet:   I'm 50, but I have managed to avoid the kid factors, so I still have lots of guitars and go to concerts regularly.  The first big concert I saw was Black Sabbath opening for Blodwyn Pig, the last concert was the Tigerlillies.  I just saw Cream this year and have tickets to see the Stones yet again!  I have seen all the classic bands of the late 60's and 70's.  I moved to New York from the UK in 1980 and got to see a ton of bands here too.  I am still into all types of music (except country and western and jazz-fusion-trance  :shock: ).

Oh, and every so often I can pick up a guitar and play (when the old hands have it in them  :twisted: )

Don't worry 50 is nothing. your as old as you feel and since I bought some Bareknukle pups' I'm 21 again! My mate Nick in 'Whole Lotta Led' is about 55 now and he is gigging about 3-4 nights a week and doing alright at it as he has bought one of those Jimmy page Gibson Custom Les Pauls for 8.5 grand!

So your in Hoboken! I have a cousins in Bayonne. I went there a few years back. Man their tough nuts around there!

Ok i`m 40,  Johnathan is right  the 70`s was a much better time to be a kid in, you were allowed a childhood then now.....As for the bands.I saw AC/DC on the Back in black tour there 1st night back in the U.K the 1st night in London since the death of Bon Scott who died in London just after there last gig ! 2 weeks later it was Motorhead on the Ace of Spades tour !!. Black Sabbath on the Heaven & Hell tour, Judas Priest, Saxon,  i saw the last ever London gig done by Thin Lizzy & there last ever gig @ Reading in `83. Donnington in `81 `82 `83`84 `85.  The list is endless. i used to hang out at the Heavey Metal discos in my area with Neil Kaye. i was actually there at NWOBHM !! i wonder what ever happend to Neil Kaye......

Well, I guess I've seen some classic bands playing great shows in my time, but I've also seen amazing shows from unknowns in tiny bars!  I mean, of course I'd like to go back in time and see the likes of Hendrix & the Experience at their prime :) but I always reckon the greatest music in the world is being made Right Now, somewhere out there.  Just gotta find it!
