RG550 wiring help
« on: May 09, 2007, 12:31:11 AM »
Okay, The Ibanez INF pickups that come with the guitar have a strange wiring pattern. The Pup wire only splits into 3 parts; red, white and bare.

I'm trying to install a Rebel Yell, which has 5 splits; red, white, green, black, and ground. I know the black and ground to to the back of the volume pot. but where do the other 3 go?

Same goes for the middle Single coil, the Ibanez spilts into 3 parts; red, white, and bare. The red and the white go to the switch and the bare goes to the volume pot. It also looks like the bare (ground) doesnt connect to the Pup at the beginning, just to the pot.

My Irish Tour only has 2 wires from it. The black goes to the pot but where does the white go to?

I thought this would be an easy swap ><.

Here's a DiMarzio diagram for a similar wiring setup:

http://www.dimarzio.com/media/diagrams/C.pdf

Just remember that instead of DiMarzio's red/black/white/green coding, BKP use red/green/white/black.

The Irish Tour's white wire should go to the appropriate tag on the switch (where the single-coil's black wire goes in the diagram).

Hope that helps!

Thanks Philly Q, but I'm not sure that will work. I have a different switch than the one that is in the Dimarzo diagram.

I'm not 100% sure, because all my guitars have US-style switches, but I think:

The BKP humbuckers' red wires should go where the IBZ humbuckers' red wires go;

The BKP humbuckers' green & white wires (joined together) should go where the IBZ humbuckers' white wires go;

The BKP humbuckers' black & bare wires should go where the IBZ humbuckers' bare wires go, i.e. to ground;

And the IT's white wire goes where the IBZ single-coil's red wire goes.

Hope that's right!  :D

Philly you are my savior. I understood what to do cept for which BKP wire went where the red and white IBZ wires are. I had half the answer so to speak. And when I tried to solve it i scratched up the old pup lol.

They also did this weird thing with th middle coil too, instead of haing a tag on the switch connect to the switch they just soldered the ground and the white to that single tag lol. Had me in a loop for a min before I figured it out.

Thanks again. I feel so relieved lol.
