now I've got one nylon-stringed, two steel-stringed (one acoustic and one electric) and a medium needle-nosed plyer and a string winder, now how do I go about doing it properly?

Put a search out on google for it - plenty to read!

Dan Erlewine's book is pretty cool on that one too
