So cud i put a Warpig in the bridge and Nailbomb in the neck? S i wud then be able to play scorching metal riffs and cool solos?

The Warpig neck (if it is, actually, basically a alnico MM) also oughta handle cool metal solos.  But there are good MP3 clips of Mr. Tim playin' both MM and NB necks, I believe, so you can check out which one has the nuances thou seek'st :)

Man, a ceramic Warpig bridge would be b r u t a l !!!  I can barely contemplate that

Indeed, the Warpig is Alnico V (which is perhaps what helps the 'pig clean up so surprisingly well?); it's the Miracle Man that's ceramic.

Though it seems like the statistics in the current descriptions are the bridge pickup configuration (since in any set, the neck is likely to be made with a lower output, I think).  Hopefully the promised new descriptions, in addition to more info all around, will help distinguish between bridge and neck positions (at least for the humbuckers!).

The Warpig usually isn't ceramic, but I would advise it for what Trey plays.
I can’t give an exact mid comparison between the NB and MM man but the MM has a scooped midrange compared to the NB.
You couldn't put a Nailbomb bridge in the neck, it would be muddy but a Nialbomb neck would sound good. The Warpig neck has a screaming lead tone so I would advise you stick with that. The Nailbomb is more of an old school metal sound, think sepultura kind of tone. The Warpig is much more of a modern metal tone whereas I think the miracle man is like Zakk and Dimebags tone.

Man, I had thought Zakk and Dimebag were modern metal! :)  I've only just gotten my head around the idea that Sepultura must be old school these days.  (I keep thinking that, like, NWOBHM bands are old school, but I guess they must actually be Jurassic School by now ;)).

Where's that wall-of-warm-molasses Kyuss tone then? 8)

One of the problems I find in listening for people with great tone is that everyone with great tone plays so much better than me! But equally, loads of music that I love was recorded so long ago by people who were (at least at the time) so wasted and/or broke that when you really listen to the sound, you realize it was played through a box in a toilet and recorded on trash. ;)  Half the tone you end up imagining in your head, like some kind of error correction!

Still, it seems that throughout the last 40 years, it's hard to go wrong by taking a fat guitar, loading it with fat pickups, and running it through a fat amp. I guess when I think of great guitar albums, I'm always going to think of the Sabbaths and Zeps and Mountains and Santanas ... though at any given moment I'm probably more likely to cue up something (slightly) more recent to listen to, like Zakk or Down or Spiritual Beggars or something.  But that stuff doesn't really sound that different to me -- just louder and better recorded than the "classics"!

You mentioned spiritual beggars and DOWN... maybe a Holydiver pickup in the bridge?

Hmm, interesting idea.  The Holydivers are ceramic, and though I've like the playing of other's with a cermanic magnet pickup (like the MM), I haven't really felt the ceramic vibe was "me".  Still , the current Holydiver description talks of "defined, powerful attack and classic hot rock tone" as well as "sweet clean tone", both of which things I like the sound of :).  Then again, it also mentions "technically ... demanding players", of which I'm not one ;) ....  I'm leary of the pickups people describe as "unforgiving, with nowhere to hide", because I have the technique of a drunken monkey and need plenty of places to hide and much forgiveness :)

Haven't seen much in the way of Holydiver clips though!  (Another "ignored" pickup?)  It'd be cool to here what it can do.

Yeah.. but you must think this way too : for an example.. i liked the MUle pickups, but they are not for high gains stuff... but the tone really convinced me to get one, at least, for the neck.
so...you might think that way to .
Q:)

I think of Zakk and Dime as classic metal tones, sepultura have been around for a while and were way ahead of their time, their tone isn’t super saturated, they just know how to make riffs sound heavy without using silly amounts of distortion!
I think of modern metal tones as fear factory, Rammstein, Strapping young lad etc.
This is probably because of my age, Im sure older members will disagree!

As for some of the less mentioned pickups, they are not ignored; its just not every one has access to recording equipment!
