While I know about the mechanical advantages of using neodymium magnets, has anyone tried using them in guitar pickups? What are the results? Are there any inherent advantages and disadvatages (aside from the expense)?

In my experience neodymium mags are very powerful, I know Fishman use them for their soundhole pickups but they are a long way from the strings and trying to read bronze wounds too.
Not sure if neodymium comes in different strengths.

I know Ed Roman's SD Black Back pickups use them, or so they say. There was also this Ndyme microphone that used it.

I know a few manufacturers use them, music man use them in some of there bass pickups. Neodymium is very cheap and extremely strong, that is probably the only reason it is used. I’ve never heard it before so I can comment on them sound wise.

We've got some big bars of it in the workshop for re magnetising and de magnetising mags.

I figured as much; I mean, if it was worth doing, it would already be used.
I know in loudspeaker design it's a very useful magnet, since you can get a very powerful magnet in a small space; perfect for high-excursion loudspeaker applications!
