To me it would make sense if we could hear a decent CS clip recorded with a real Gibson LPC/S. Wood does make a lot, lot of difference and Les Pauls are known for having tons of mids already, so that's why the CS sounds perfect in a Les Paul, very well balanced (which makes a lot of sense).

I've not listened to the clips, but Feline's Lion (which I think will be Will's here on the forum) has the same contruction as a "real" Les Paul.  Mahogany back and neck with a maple top...

Jon's own Lion also has this same contruction and Cold Sweats.

The Lion in the clip has exactlty the right construction for a Les Paul
Mahoganty back, two piece American maple cap and a 3 piece mahogany neck with an ebony board
I believe this is what John Sykes' Lp has - certainly correct for that period

We do have another similar one that has a 3 piece maple neck rather than the mahogany which will be like some of the othr LPs from the mid 70s where they turned to maple as the neck wood.
It should give a "stiffer" and less compressed tone - absolutely huge in some ways

Well, it's real fun to hear the CS bridge in this video clip. I can recognize the character/tone of the pickup, although the fact that it's open-poled, together with the unpainted body/neck needs to play a part in the overall tone as well. It makes the tone slightly more agressive in the higher mids, a tad 'harder' and therefore a little bit less focused on its mids, as pop referred to say.

If you want more mids and still kind of the same tone as you'd get with the CS, than the Painkillers might be worth a try.

It's not quite a Marshall, but here's a video clip of me playing a coldsweat bridge through a Sansamp on a high gain Marshall setting.

Also the guitars on these tracks were recorded through a Marshall TSL.  (Less mids than I normally go for, but I was trusting the engineer's judgement) These are coldsweats double tracked with a Painkiller bridge.

Hope these help.   :)

uhm... the only thing that CS and PK have in common is the ceramic magnet, at least in my hears... PK are much more aggressive and percussive.
