GAS strikes again - new guitar purchase...
« on: June 21, 2007, 11:53:26 PM »
"Yes dear, I have loads already.  No, I don't really need another.  But it was a bargain..."

That was me earlier trying to explain my latest guitar purchase to the missus

I've just bought one of these:

A '99 Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite in natural finish.  I've been on the lookout for something with a P-90 in the neck for a while and I couldn't resist a mint condition USA Gibson for £449!!!  It's fitted with P-100s at the minute so I'll need to invest in a set of Tim's finest P-90s in the near future.  Got a couple of gigs coming up so that should pay for them.  I've tried the SG Classic as I thought that would be ideal, but the neck was too chunky for me.  This guitar has the 60s slim taper neck (my personal favourite) so it's ideal.  About the same price as a new Tokai (which also has too chunky a neck for me).

Incidently, the P-100s currently fitted are actually quite nice.  I already have a set of them so true P-90s will be something different.  I've got the sister guitar to the one above - a '99 Gibson Les Paul Junior Special like the one below but in cinnamon (translucent red).

Isn't GAS a terrible affliction?

I love the look of them, great buy Twinfan. I, meanwhile, have been offered a Gibson CS 336 at a great price and if my Grannies were still alive they'd both be on Ebay.

Thanks Mr 38th  :D

I love the mini-trapezoid inlays - much more interesting than dots but full size trapezoids would look out of place.  The perfect balance.  These are the only two I've seen in the UK with these inlays so I think they must be fairly rare.

Those CS 336s are lovely looking gee-tars.  I've never really had the urge for a semi though (ooo-er missus!).

which one did you buy? you have two pics up there...

both are very nice though, whichever you bought. I need to get something with p90's at some stage too, i have my eye on an edwards... didn't really get along with the neck on the couple of gibbos i've tried with p90's (sg, i think), though they did sound pretty nice.

:drink:

Dave - I've just bought the double cut in natural, but I also own the singlecut version in red.  The SG Classic with P-90s has a pretty chunky neck which I don't like either (as I mention above).  These have the slim taper which is great.

I've just ordered the P-90s:  Black soapbar P-90s, stock polarity, unpotted coils.  Should sound proper vintage  :D
