Killing some Bass

Got off of work at 8:30pm...nightshift sucks!!!!

Stopped and got 2-6 packs of Bass!!!!

Down to a few and watching Paul Gilbert and Jimmy Page on youtube.

I'm disappointed, I thought you went on a spree murdering some 4-stringers or fish...



















Bass is pretty nice, though. I prefer ale to lager, that's for sure.

Buwahahaha!!!

Bass players are already hard to find...don't want to start killing them off!

Usually, I'll grab some New Castle but I tried Bass last week and really liked it.

The best New Castle I had was a couple of weeks ago in New Orleans. We stopped at an International Bar and Grill and I had New Castle on tap.

I'm new at drinking ale but is it in my head that it taste better in a mug than straight out of the bottle?

My favourite ales are still Hobgoblin and Old Peculier. Newcastle isnt bad though, I guess its more refreshing because its meant to be drank chilled according to the label :)

What bass is it in your area?  I once had a summer job packing up bottles of bass pale ale for export.  The bass that is on pumps round most of the uk is a different thing.

I am from burton-on-trent, so the bass you drank the other night probably would have been brewed down the road from my house.

I can also recommend a fine pint of Marstons Pedigree - although there is a catch. . .   it doesnt travel very well so tastes bad if it goes far from burton - and even a lot of the burton pubs are taking less care with the barrels and ruining the taste.  With it being brewed in wood it needs a carefull touch and a good settling period before its ready.

Other non- burton favorites include kimberly 'classic' straight from the barrel and timothy taylor 'landlord'

I did used to drink a lot of bottles of dog (newcastle brown ale) when i was 14-16 sneaking into rock clubs - i still have the odd bottle to remind me of those days

Wes, interesting stuff. Bass is the only British beer that I can buy in supermarkets here (Quite a shame as I am quite the real ale fiend)
and the one thing I really notice is that it seems sweetened compared to Bass back at home, the same goes for when I find it on tap.

Pedigree is good but yes a good pint is the exception rather than the rule. Much like Timothy Taylor Landlord which I always enjoyed but never understood the fuss about it until I stayed at an inn (yes, a real inn!) in Haworth, a stones throw from Keighley where it's brewed and the beer there was truly incredible, better than any wine or whisky that I have ever enjoyed. Amazing.

Bass and Smithwicks are the first beers I drink (oh so many years ago)

whats Bass ? well it's pronounced in the same manner as the fish, and can be purchased from here http://www.realbeerbox.com/pyo.aspx

Like Tom (good choice sir) I prefer Theakstons Old Peculiar (to be found here http://www.theakstons.co.uk/landing.php), though Bishops Finger (and Bananna Bread http://www.charleswells.co.uk/home/brands/ales) are pretty OK when the mood takes me.

For some reason I think Dog (Newcastle Brown dosn't travel too well, though it may be to do with having so much fun when I used to visit Newcastle).

Though it hurts me to say it I think Guinness is awful these days, though the Nigerian brewed Guinness is pretty damned good when you can find it.

My ultimate quest is to find a reliable source of some of those darker Frence and Beglian beers in the UK though
