Bk for a washburn N2

Well i just finished to save up for a crawler set, its wiring and some electronics upgrades for my lp, and i just can't wait... i'll try to do clips :P

But i guess you all know how gas works.  I've got this cute little N2, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, really nice to play...
Well since i now have all my heavy-rock kinda dark/low mid growl ground covered, i want my N2 to cover the brighter/clearer side of the distortion spectrum...

I'm kinda of set on a Cold sweat neck, but for the bridge i don't really know.... Basically i'm going for a 80's hair-metal type of sound: loads of high-mids agression, tight, and rather bright... without ice picks in the ears, (alder is already quite bright) which is currently the case with the Bill Lawrence L-500 in the bridge position (that's why i want bk  )...

yeah, i'd like the pup to do a convincing Nuno 'pornograffiti' tone too -i love Extreme- the L-500 gets it quite right but the tone is just a lot thinner and shriller than Nuno's, i guess because nuno's prototype N4 were mainly Padouk ones and had the 'true' Bill Lawrence in there (and not the B.L. USA L-500... :? confusing stuff)...

Anyway i scrolled across the forum and found out someone already asked pickup advice for a N2, and Tim himself risponded but didn't set his mind: he first said 'Miracle Man for a 'improved' L-500 feeling' then concluded 'just wait for the Cold sweat, it slays'.... :?
Then i learned that TO is recording all of his rythm work with a cold sweat, so i checked out his myspace and really liked the 80's metal kind of sound (squadron is a killer dude, congrats on that song)...

So i'm kinda hesitating between those two: MM or CS bridge. Which would be better for a 80's hair-metal vibe? For a Nuno pornografitti vibe? (EDIT: reconsidering it my priority goes to the Extreme tone if something really different is required for those two :D )
maybe something else? old spec HD? PK? even VHII?.....*aheum* what about the true bill lawrence L-500??
I started my own record label.
It's called Stand Out Records.

miracle man sounds nothing like a l-500 to me
it's a lot more powerful, aggressive, bassier and tighter

i'd go with the cold sweat
maybe a rebel yell (smoother), holy diver (thicker) or nailbomb (more cutting) if you prefer alnico pickups

I had to give this one some thought. Firstly, I'm not familiar with BL pups, though I am familiar with Nuno's tone, which changed drastically from the self titled album through Punchline, Poplulation 1, the Mourning Widows and his most recent stuff.

In a dual humbucker N2, I would go with the Cold Sweat bridge and a Stormy Monday neck.

Thanx for the compliments on Squadron. New stuff will be posted soon, so keep checking back!

i find l500xl very close to seymour duncan george lynch screamin demon pickup tone, but it has a tighter attack and a bit more bass

as a george lynch fan and BKP expert, twilightodissey must know the best option  :D

I'm going to surprise everyone now by not just immediately singing the praises of the Cold Sweat bridge. It is certainly a killer pup and much underrated to my mind but I'd have thought that in a bright sounding guitar you'd have been better with Alnico V rather than ceramic so that you thicken the sound. My first thought was Holy Diver as perfect for what you're after but I tend to always assume that Tim is right so if he says CS then I guess that must be right. It's certainly alot thicker and more organic than any other ceramic pup and if you got a covered set, that would warm it up a bit further. I certainly wouldn't have said MM in a million years. It's a great pup but I'd have thought it was too 'ice picks in the ears' in a guitar like that.

That's what i thought about the MM too, isn't it supposed to be kinda low-mid focused? While the L-500 has...well, no low-mids? that did confused me a bit...
I also thought about the HD but i don't particularly want to thicken the tone. That's basically what i'm going for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MMkd8l_dEw      ....throaty...

Anyway if TO and tim recommend Cold sweat bridge for that type of agressive/acid sound, i think i'll give it a try.

I very much doubt you'll be disappointed with a Cold Sweat bridge. I find it to be extremely versatile for a ceramic pup and will take a very wide range of distortions in its stride, from Classic Rock to modern Metal. I have no doubt you will be another member of the Cold Sweat fan club.  :D

Edit: Just listened to that clip and the Cold Sweat will certainly do that.

I am the biggest nuno fan in the whole planet and I can tell you MM is quite different to BL L500. MM is more roundier, heavier and harder(like a hammer), the depth of tone is what you expect from ceramic-based pick ups, it's a monster to tame. but when you get it right, oh joy the joy~~

I personally would like a non-metal version of MM a bit more like BL original!  :D (bet ppl from this forum's hating my comment)
