mahogany + miracle man set= lack of chunk....

its confusing me.i have the MM set in  a mahogany guitar...i thought therefore it would be very dark an thick sounding.but its not.th wiring jobs fine,im tuned to d standard with heavy gauge strings an im missing alot of sound.any suggestions to whats wrong?
my guitar has 500k pots, it that making it too bright?or lackin in substance.
like i had those pups in a alder guitar an they killed. massise sound great articulation an squeals.
would an ebony  neck effect th tone much?

seriously thinkin of replacing them with pigs for th chunk.though im not tryin to put th MM down as theyre brut pups.
or maybe im just makin more excuses to justify my gas  :roll:

thats pretty much what im after,though have you tried th ceramic pigs? im worried that theyd sound quite similar to  th MM that i have.although if they have more bass i think that'd be deadly.i suppose you have to experiment to find th right pups for every guitar.

from my experience (i.e. very little), the miracle man is more of an 80's voiced pickup... it's pretty bright. It's a very nice bright (as opposed to some pickups which'd rip your ears off), but even in mahogany (though to be fair mine is neck-thru with a fair bit of maple in there) it's bright. That's pretty much what i was after, but, er, yeah. I mean, if you listen to the song "miracle man" it's quite a bright tone too.

i was talking about the MM. i have one in a mahogany guitar w/ maple neck and it's not dark sounding at all

i got a WP in a basswood w/ maple neck guitar and it's pretty brutal. the ceramic warpig would  be a real weapon though hehe

what amp(s) are you playing thru?/dont be afraid to tweak away at those knobs-my MM/LP Custom has chug,but not a dark pup -a great combo to my midless Boogie settings-helps me cut...eq could help ..or grab a set of pigs

I can relate to your problem as when I got my pups everyone seemed to suggest MM to me initially and I just don't like the sound as I just find it too bright. I even had that complaint with the clip that Tim posted and that was done in a Les Paul! I started hankering after a Warpig as I like alot of distortion but no matter how I redefined my sound Tim never seemed keen on putting a WP into a mahogany bodied guitar so on that basis I'd be very wary of doing so and I'd certainly check with Tim first.

aye it mahogany but very skinny...about an inch thick so thats likely the prob...it sounds brut an all but theres somethin  just not right to my ears.maybe i just need a pig aas they were my 1st choices anyway.

i  was never a gibson man.i cant stand sg's. but i like th lespauls.though i never seen one i liked enough to buy...

but thats likely just because im a skinflint miser   :roll:

if so, i can kinda offer some advice here, although not in terms of BK pups specifically. (i only ever had the 81/85 EMGs in mine)

your description fits perfectly- it is brutal but its just not as thick and 'huge' sounding as it could be... i would tend to suggest that like others have said, its the guitar.

my Burny LP i recently bought has twice the chunk and its got 80s PAF-style pickups...

i had a band pratctice yesterday and i used my handcrafted les paul in brazilian mahogany/imbuya top loaded with the miracle man set

it sounded A LOT darker than i though (but not in a bad way)
i used my peavey rockmaster tube preamp into a solid state gallien krueger combo

then i left the guitar in a luthier and he played it thru a laney vh100r which sounded even darker

aye it defo is the guitar....i took th MM set out an put them into my old heavy alder dkmg an its kills with them!!! so much beef an snap.the slsng is just toooooo skinny for them....balls!!! :shock: slsmg :shock: slsmg :shock:

i guess ill have to get a 'pig to get th tone i want outta that guitar.
