Pickups and seven strings.....
« on: April 10, 2005, 10:09:11 AM »
Hey all,

I currently have a Schecter c7 with a Bare Knuckle Nailbomb in the bridge and Mule wind in the neck...but as i`m an awkward get my Orange head doesn`t like the punch the Nailbomb packs...its hitting my preamp too hard giving me a bit of `mushyness`...

So, I shall swap the Mule and put it in the neck to see how that sorts the problem out, at the moment the Mule has a tad too much bass for me in neck position. I use .10-.58 strings and a 3mm Dunlop stubby pick n` don`t tickle the strings. I was wondering if there is a suitable BK PU that perhaps has almost a `flat` eq so I can shape it with the amp. I currently run all my tone controls between 12-2, love the sound i`m getting but if I back the bass off then I lose the punch I need on the bridge for pm`s etc...

Anyone have any suggestions as to what PU to try for the neck? Or any mods to the guitar itself? At the moment I feel I am 90% the way to my ideal tone, a huge organic sound with heavy distortion that still has clarity and a percussive quality on muted strings with a hefty dollop of Down and BLS rhythm styles and squeals...just need to sort the last 10% out!!!

Any info greatly received :)

My general rule for neck pickups is to keep the wind low and let the pickup breath.
If the Mule works out in the bridge then we can wind a claibrated Mule to suite in the neck. I think it'd be best to stick to Alnico V purely because of the low B-I'll  await the verdict on the Mule going into the bridge first.

Not at all and the main concern is getting your tone right which I'm sure we'll do.
