Little Rock DI out question
« on: July 18, 2007, 11:53:07 AM »
Hi folks - quick DI question if I may.

If I wanted to run the DI out of my Little Rock into a slave/power amp, would I still need to connect speakers directly to the Little Rock so the amp sees a load?  I'm assuming the output from the Little Rock is cut when I plug into the DI?

I'm wondering what the Little Rock will sound like run through my Laney Klipps.......

Looks like I need speakers connected - got this from the Marshall website:

14p - When using the DI socket on the back of my amplifier does the speaker cabinet need to be plugged in?

We recommend a speaker cabinet is connected to Marshall Amplifiers at all times.

Hmmm.  Might try running the Little Rock though a Klipp then!

I was under the impression that a dummy load is turned on with the DI out so you dont need speakers attached, and that you could use DI and speakers at  the same time but the dummy load might affect the tone and give slightly less volume.

Thats how the minimat worked anyway so i hope the little rock is the same - i think its 3 weeks today since i ordered, getting itchy!!!

It sounds like you can basiccally use the little rock before - or in the fx loop of any amp with the DI socket

Superb - thanks Wez.  I've just found a quote from the manual online:

Quote
DI Socket – this output has a resistive load that enables direct output to a mixing desk.
Whilst this load does have an inductance in order to take out some of the treble, it should be noted that it does not have a speaker simulator.

I guess that means I don't need a cab connected.  Nice one  :D

I waited way longer than three weeks for my Little Rock, after I'd paid too!  They had a big order in for Canada that was taking up Dave's resources.

Have you called them to see when yours will be ready?

I wont start hasseling them till it gets to four weeks , after friday i am off work for 6 weeks and really want my new toy for some of that!!!!

I am still waiting for some tolex and grill gloth to recover the speaker cabinet i got for it.  It will be red levant with wheat grill cloth and white piping.  I have a red wall in my front room so the only way i can sneak a speaker cab in there is if it matches!!

The Di socket should turn these little beasties into incredibly versatile little amps -  i want to put it through my cousins dual rec fx loop to use the mesa boogie as a slave as soon as he lets me

Great idea.  My old Klipps don't have that option, so I'll run it through the whole amp.  Could be interesting!
