Wez venables guitar build - Done and dusted!!

Suddenly from what i am getting from you guys i am getting that it should have that bocote fretboard and that the body shape i have designed needs more work to be truly appealing, the spalted maple seems to be very popular so we know who is more ocncerned with appearance rather than ultimate tone  (i know thats not true because you wouldnt be here if you were not interested in getting a good tone).

I will make my decision based on your input on sunday night and start gluing the wood together on monday!!

Now i am going to go and get drunk

keep it coming!!!

Something that just ocurred to me (for some reason) is that maybe you could do a roughly LP shape with an 'offset' body, in the same way that an ESP Viper is an 'offset' SG - do you get what I mean?

Dodgy paint skills, but that sort of thing

does not mean you would prefer the flamed over spalted?  It will all be taken into consideration!!

So far i am getting the idea we are going for something like the deisgn i posted but a bit less bulbous at the rear end  - more of a substantial horn and a bigger upper bout...  that keeps making me thing of the matt bellamy manson's - which isnt bad but i dont want to do owt like that incase i want to sell it.

i am suprised nobody seems to be keen on doing a strat shape!!!  i reckon if we are going with the spalted maple it might look good on a simple san dimas style strat - with the bocote fretboard and some nice inlays, flaming skulls or something!!!!   SImple design will work better with the OTT grain of the woods.  maybe a set-neck strat with tune-o-matic!!

That shape just screames semi-acoustic to be, something like an ES-125...

Of course you could change the electrics round or decide to make it with a tune-o-matic and stopbar.  I'd finish it in that red stain in the ebay auction above and have twin P90s (yum!!!)

I'd definetly go for a Strat shape - But you seemed to put alot of thought into that Singlecut - So I didn't want to say anything :p

If I could find the photo of a specific Superstrat with a spalted top I saw a few months ago - I'd show it.

It had radioactive signs on the fretboard, and 1 pound coins on the knobs with a bloodwood binding on the neck.

Was truly gorgeous imo - And VERY cool - But alot of hard work.

My dream shape would be something like a Black Machine, Caparison Dellinger or an ESP M series shape - My fave guitars are definetly super strats.

The singlecut shape is being used by my cousin/sprayer on a guitar he is making. . .  we designed it as a semi-hollow  guitar so made two sets of templates.  one for the shape and another for the chambers!!!

I am quite open to doing a strat because its something else i already have templates for - but i am not really worried if i have to make more templates anyway..  but a strat is still something i have never gotten around to doing so having an excuse to do one is never a bad thing... but i dont see the point making it like a standard strat because there are far too many of them in the world anyway!!!

I like most guitars.  There are a few i am not interested in building like extra pointy bc rich or dean razorback shapes but even the stuff i moan about like SG's i actually quite like - i just have issues with the way gibson does it!!!

i was just looking at the skulls on the bottom of my vince ray voodoo boots and thinking i could do some good inlays with skulla and flames - -  part of me wants to do something a bit more rockabilly!!!  probably not for this though.

i will do the kisekae thing tomorrow for the strat

nice mockup noodle but gold hardware is a definate no-no for me!!!  other than that, and the fact the pickups look wrong that way round - bloody lovelly stuff!!!

headstock will obviously be one of my own designs, althougt it isnt something i am as precious about as other makers it will be where i am most likely to fall into trouble - copyright wise anyway

my headstock shapes tend to be variations on a theme to suit each guitar
