this mornings first job was to get some more oil on the neck after the initial coat last night.
This time the oil is applied whilst wetsanding the entire neck with finishing paper. I went up to about 1500grit wet &dry paper then switched to micromesh paper going up to 12000grit. tbh you can just take it to around 1000grit then switch to 0000 wire wool and wax but i get carried away sometimes. the danish oil is constantly added to the paper as you go and all residue is buffed off between grits.
here is where it stands now!!!

the problem with oil finishes is that they wear through relatively fast so this will get a couple of coats of wax to protect it but even so it wont stay this shiny on its own. The neck will probably need 1 re-oil/wax as well as regular buffing in its first year and whenever it needs it after that. With regular playing and buffing a patina as nice as this will build up and it will need less treatment and shouldnt dry out. A fair bit extra maintenance but its worth it!!
