7 String PU Advise--Mahogany
« on: August 03, 2007, 05:45:19 PM »
I just purchased a Cold Sweat neck for my all mahogany bodied custom 7 string (African mahogany).  It sounds amazing.

I'd like some opinions on a BN pup for my bridge position.  I've tried a Lundgren M7 and Invader.  The M7 sounds WAY too muddy and the Invaders sounds WAY too fuzzy.  Neither hold the gain on my Mesa Triple Rec. very well (very harsh sounding at loud volumes).  Overall, the guitar is very dark sounding with lots of deep tones and lower-mids.

I tune the 7th. string way down to A (A-E-A-D-G-B-E).  I'm going for a metal tone with tight bass when I pick low notes and clarity when I strum low bar chords (i.e., I want to hear all 5 notes of a barred chord).

I've posted a similar post at SS.org and many suggested the EVO7 or X2N, as an FYI.  But I really would like some opinions on BN pups.

Thanks for your help.

I would get a miracle man personally i dont have the seven string version but i have one in my mahogany esp tuned to drop b and its awesome. loads of low end whilst being insanely tight and the treble is just perfect not fizzy or too sharp soundng. and any bkp will sound better than a dimarzio imo the blaze and x2ns i used to have have been sold on. both were too fizzy for my liking.

I'd be tempted by a Painkiller.
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

If memory serves me correctly there are some 7 string demos in the players room with Nailbombs and Painkillers by lepersmeesa.
