Eminence speakers
« on: August 19, 2007, 05:57:07 AM »
Hey, who has some eminence speakers?  I listened to all the clips on their site, but can't hear their differences well.  Which 12 will give me the most sparkly chimey spanky funky cleans, but also deliver the gain.  I have celestion v30s in a 412 cab, now, which have spiky mids and highs.   I have a rivera knucklehead amp that I modded with kt77s and love the gain improvement, but still not happy with cleans.  I probably will do a mix of two types, but don't know how to get best of both worlds.  for cleans I want fender  bassman sound and for gain I want, well ..,Rivera :)  can anyone give me some advice/direction, please.?

I think the Texas Heat is a pretty niffty speaker... but for the cleans it's gotta be the Screamin' Eagle... best of both worlds

but i always go back to Celestions

I've got a pair of The Guv'nors in an open backed 2x12, and they sound great, can scream with gain, and then go to a nice sparkley clean passage also. Can't comment on other Eminence models though.

I have a set of Tonespotters in a 2x12 cab and they sound very nice clean and drive into a really sweet distorted sound.  I also have a Wizard in a 1X12 and this is a great speaker, lots of punch and bottom end with a nice top end too (a better vintage 30 really).

Can you mix alnico with ceramic successfully. I am looking hard at the wizard  to maybe keep it half v30-ish with less spikeyness.   Basically,, I want to go from lenny to dimebag or get a real happy medium.  Anyone have the cannabis rex?

I have a Cannabis Rex, a Governor and a Black Powder.

The Governor is a perfect sub for people who like the Celestion V30. A bit different than the V30, very aggressive, great sound.

The Black Powder is very bright and has an almost acoustic edge to clean sounds. It also sounds extremely good with baritones/7-strings on very heavy metal-type sounds, but otherwise it lacks somewhat warmth and fullness to be good for blues or jazz or more mellow rock styles.

The Cannabis Rex is very full and clean sounding, maybe what you want. I love it, it gives a very fat bottom end, lotsa warmth and works quite well with gain as well. It just lacks the aggressive edge for metal, but if you team it up with other speakers you might get what you want.

Personally I'd suggest something like the Tonespotter, great middle ground based on the G12-65.. great 80s/vintagey high gain + amazing cleans.

If you want a recommendation I have 2  4X12s loaded with webers 1 1265s and the other 1265 and 1230-55 in a x pattern, the mix cab is the best for cleans rock metal you name it. webers are the way to go. If you want to spend a little more.

Yes
What I'm doing know is loading  a 2X12 for practice and will load it with the 65 and 30-55  but  I'm going to take out the 2 65's and put in 2 more 30-55's so I'll have a cab if 65's and 30-55's stack.  Ther is a wait now for webers, about 30+ days. Hope this helps.

So, splawnster do you like webers better than eminence? do you have both , or have had both to compare?  Thanks for your help, and responses, by the way.

when i got my splawn cab had it loaded with the man o war and governors in the X pattern and at lower to mid volume the speakers seem fine, put at high volume they had this fart like sound going on.  I had some celestions a few years back the G12T75 and v 30's in th e X pattern and the highs were not to my liking, the eminence have the celestions beat in the highs, I did here a swanpthang and a wizard 2X12 in a over size cab, jazz band this summer it sounded great, more like a 4X12.  so if you know of a amp fest come up to your town go to it of go to music stores and listen to as many speakers as you can, You won't be disappointed with webers other than the break-in and the wait now. They are very busy. about a month wait for speakers. Hope this helps.
