I happened to come into the possession of these speakers. Came with the cab I got as a part of a deal.

Does anyone know how much these are worth? I don't really need them so I'm thinking of selling them.

new greenbacks are worth around £50 each, check the age of yours to see if they are worth more

The serial number is a bit smudgy but it seems to say J122 AE25.

From your link it's probably 25th Jan 1972 :o

i would keep an eye on ebay and see what they are going for

like this set similar to yours for instance - seems pricey to me but if thats what they are going for :D :

The ebay speakers are G12Hs and are slightly earlier (pre-rola) type with the 'Celestion' logo rather than the 'Rola-Celestion' logo.

If the cones are original and there is no rubbing on the voice coils I'd say the speakers are worth £300-400

Try playing with a spankin' clean tone on the neck pickup - there should be no 'grating' sounds on the speaker and the bass end should be punchy and true.

Have a look at the back of the cones through the holes in the frame and let me know what the lettering is on the cones. You'll most likely see 003 or 3 but might also get 1777 - these are all lead cones and shows that the speakers have not been reconed.

Why do you want to sell them btw?

btw, that would be T1221 - it's the model number for THE classic G12M.

I don't have my Celestion dating info to hand, but '72 seems about right for those speakers - the green magnet cover, Rola-Celestion labels and black solder tabs.

Just got home and checked the serials of all speakers. You were right, what I thought it said was J122 was actually T1221 because the other ones were a bit clearer and they said T1221. Also it wasn't AE, it was AF, so that makes it '73 rather than '72.

They wrote or printed the '3' in quite a few different ways over the years, eventually ending up with just a single '3'. Yours is indeed the famous lead cone these speakers are famous for.

I'll probably hang on to them then. The cab seems shitee though, it's made of MDF and doesn't even have a center support pillar thing. Also it's furry :lol:

get your self a nice empty 4x12 cab and do them speakers some justice.

the fluffy stuff is insulation to make it sound less boxy - might not actually be needed!!

I played through it clean and it sounds very nice and rich but when there's distortion it starts to sound really buzzy :( Could be the cr@p cab but could it be the "grating sound" you were talking about??
