Just got his discography and its some of the most perfect music I've ever heard - End of the Beginning is probably my favourite track so far.... anyone else a fan?

Anyone else a fan of one of the greatest guitarists to ever live?

The only people that even come close to his talent are Guthrie Govan, and Shawn Lane imo.

And ultimately inspiring.

For guitarists, that surely is the worst possible thing to happen, and to create the music he does is just beyond me.

Imagine what he would have been liek to see live

AMAZING Cover.

YES! Saw that cover a while back, just confirms that Altitudes is one of my favourite songs of all time, just so much emotion in the guitar. One day i'll improve my technique enough to play it without being hideously sloppy!

Becker is one of my faves definately! I like air the best as its very unique and different.

I think hes one of these guitarists who can write an interesting melody line which makes him stand out as most shredders cannot!

Dunno how u can compare him to Lane hes one of the most tasteless guitar players of all time! Yea he wrote some nice slower stuff but most of his improv is just shred shred shred!!

Govan ain't even in that league, good teacher tho.

I loved his work on the Dave Lee Roth Album ' Little Aint Enough' ...

A big talent and a sad loss.

The guy is an inspiration! it's a shame he's ill, he helped inspire me when I was very down when I had tendonitis, he helped me keep playing, it's a great loss to the guitar community that he's no longer playing. Shawn Lane is very underatted too! he was a genius, a true genius, unlike for example 'Jonny Borrel' the smart arse, 'OW OW OOOW I'm livin' in America'   lmao

What the hell are you on about?

Lane's compositions are incredibly tasteful - Yeah he did some showoff, but I bet you've only seen the youtube videos such as him at Namm - Where he was PAID to show off, and instructional videos - Where he's not showing off, he's demonstrating exercises - Shawn is the kind of guitarist, who had incredible technique, but did not abuse it.

And Guthrie Govan not in the same league? Check out Erotic Cakes. Search for Fives on youtube and watch any of those. He's a god of guitar, and easily mentionable among them - Hell, he has better technique than Becker did to be frank, although his compositions aren't quite as orgasmic, they're still gorgeous - Waves is a fave of mine.

Hey jason Becker was like under 18 years old when he did perpetual burn and cacophony, guthrie govan is like mid/late thirties and he only has just released 1 album? I'm not gonna bash guthrie but I am really into instrumental guitar stuff and he simply ain't up there with the elite.

Lane wasn't really a compser tho was he? to my knowledge he only had 1 album and thats out of print now. For a guy considered to be one of the greatest he didn't release hardly anything considering he was one of these up and coming shred kids like becker who in a short space of time released many albums.

Guthrie has been teaching guitar, writing articles, performing lectures for years - Which is a more noble job then releasing albums and showing off etc.

Lane was around for a longer time than his career suggests, although he never broke into the Mainstream stuff like Cacophony.

Not that I'm dissing Jason Becker, who is one of my favourite guitarists of all time - But there are many more genius guitarists around.

I totally agree, but this is about Becker not Govan, and Becker's style was rather different. Why not see that they are both good? in thier own way.
